RD
52.3.2.?
6-------
7
8
ebf4302c 92.3.2
4f3449b4
RD
10-----
11Added EVT_HELP, EVT_HELP_RANGE, EVT_DETAILED_HELP,
12EVT_DETAILED_HELP_RANGE, EVT_CONTEXT_MENU, wxHelpEvent,
13wxContextMenuEvent, wxContextHelp, wxContextHelpButton, wxTipWindow,
14and a demo to show them in action.
15
fea018f8
RD
16Deprecated PyShell and PyShellWindow, added a snapshot of PyCrust (see
17http://sourceforge.net/projects/pycrust/. )
4f3449b4 18
c7e7022c 19Added the new virtual list capabilities to wxListCtrl.
4f3449b4 20
00b6c4e3 21Added a wxSTC style editor from Riaan Booysen to the sample apps.
4f3449b4 22
09f3d4e6
RD
23Added XRCed to the wxPython Tools directory, contributed by Roman
24Rolinsky.
25
26Added a new "constructor" to most of the window classes that calls the
6d19860f 27default C++ contructor, (the one with no parameters) and also added the
09f3d4e6
RD
28coresponding Create(...) method. This allows you to do a 2-step
29creation of windows which is sometimes required for doing things such
30as setting extended style flags before the window is created, or for
31passing the object to the XRC resource system to be created from the
32resource. The name of the new "constructor" is the original name of
33the class with a "Pre" in it. For example, wxPreWindow, wxPreFrame,
34etc.
35
fe0aca37 36Updated to version 1.40 of Scintilla and updated wxStyledTextCtrl
a6978454
RD
37accordingly. While doing this update I dropped the wxLB_SORT style
38from the wxListBox created for the AutoComplete functionality. This
39means that you will have to sort the keyword lists yourself, but you
40are free to do case sensitive or case insensitive sorts and set the
41wxSTC flag accordingly.
4f3449b4 42
6d19860f
RD
43Updated wxColumnSorterMixin to also be able to place sort icons on the
44column headers, and updated the wxListCtrl demo to show it off by
45using wxColumnSorterMixin.
46
53fe40ba 47Added wxGenBitmapTextButton, TablePrint, etc. contribs from Lorne White.
ddcb3d83 48
6d8b4f8d 49Added wxNativeFontInfo and wxFontMapper.
4f3449b4 50
431f4c16 51Added pySketch to the samples.
4f3449b4 52
19a97bd6
RD
53Significantly changed how the Python interpreter lock and thread state
54are managed, which should fix the problem of running on a
55multi-processor machine.
56
76bfdc78
RD
57Added wxPyLog so log targets can be created in Python to handle log
58messages however is wished. See demo/Main.py for an example.
59
0122b7e3
RD
60Added wxFindReplaceDialog.
61
71f1334b
RD
62The second phase of OOR is implemented for wxEvtHandler, wxSizer,
63wxShape and derived classes. This means that functions and methods
64that return an object derived from wxEvtHandler that was originally
65created in Python, will return the original Python object (if it still
66exists) instead of letting SWIG wrap a new shadow object around the
67original C++ pointer.
76bfdc78 68
9d37f964
RD
69Added some optimization methods to wxDC: GetBoundingBox, DrawLineList,
70DrawPointList.
71
79f1bf32
RD
72Added a set of sophisticated Error Dialogs from Chris Fama.
73
729f4276
RD
74Added wxRightTextCtrl from Josu Oyanguren to wxPython.lib for aligning
75text in a wxTextCtrl to the right side.
76bfdc78 76
71f1334b 77Added wxURLDataObject and an example showing drag and drop of URLs to
b37c7e1d
RD
78and from web browsers. It's still not 100% bullet-proof for all types
79of browsers, but it works for the majority of cases with the popular
80browsers on Windows. On wxGTK it seems that only Netscape 4.x works,
81if anybody has any suggestions about this please bring it up on the
82wx-dev list.
83
84Added wxStopWatch.
85
86Added wxMimeTypesManager and wxFileType.
87
c0c84fa0
RD
88Passing None for the handler parameter to one of the EVT_** functions
89will now Disconnect the event.
90
91Added wxPopupWindow and wxPopupTransientWindow.
92
7dbce44a
RD
93Added wxFileHistory.
94
71f1334b 95Added wxDynamicSashWindow, which allows you to endlessly split windows
ebf4302c 96by dragging a little tab next to the scrollbars. Added a demo to show
71f1334b 97this and also the ability of multiple wxStyledTextCtrls to share the
ebf4302c
RD
98same document.
99
611dc22c
RD
100Added wxEditableListBox gizmo.
101
78e8819c
RD
102Updated wxEditor with lots of enhancements from Steve Howell and Adam
103Feuer.
104
105Added the "SplitTree gizmos" which are a collection of classes that
106were designed to operate together and provide a tree control with
107additional columns for each item. The classes are
108wxRemotelyScrolledTreeCtrl, wxTreeCompanionWindow,
109wxThinSplitterWindow, and wxSplitterScrolledWindow, some of which may
110also be useful by themselves.
1918b6f7 111
4a61305d
RD
112Added wxDllWidget from Vaclav Slavik which allows wx widgets derived
113from wxWindow to be loaded from a C++ .dll (or .so) and be used in a
114wxPython program, without the widget having to be SWIGged first. The
115visible API of the widget is limited to wxWindow methods plus a
116SendCommand method, but it is still quite powerful. See
117wxPython/contrib/dllwidget and wxPython/demo/dllwidget for more
118details.
119
b37c7e1d 120
fea018f8
RD
121
122
286e2db6 1232.3.1
bf7945ce
RD
124-----
125Added EVT_GRID_EDITOR_CREATED and wxGridEditorCreatedEvent so the user
126code can get access to the edit control when it is created, (to push
127on a custom event handler for example.)
128
d56cebe7
RD
129Added wxTextAttr class and SetStyle, SetDefaultStyle and
130GetDefaultStyle methods to wxTextCtrl.
131
132Added ability to use xml resource files. Still need to add ability to
133subclass wxXmlResourceHandler, etc...
134
135Added wxGridAutoEditMixin to the mixins library package.
136
137Made ColourSelect be derived from wxButton.
138
286e2db6
RD
139Fixed img2py to work correctly with Python 2.1.
140
141Added enhanced wxVTKRenderWindow by Prabhu Ramachandran
142
bf7945ce 143
9416aa89
RD
144
1452.3.0
19cf4f80
RD
146-----
147Removed initial startup dependency on the OpenGL DLLs so only the
9416aa89 148glcanvasc.pyd depends on them, (on wxMSW.)
19cf4f80
RD
149
150Changed wxFont, wxPen, wxBrush to not implicitly use the
9416aa89
RD
151wxThe[Font|Pen|Brush]List objects behind the scenes, but to use normal
152ctor and dtors.
19cf4f80
RD
153
154Exposed the wxThe[Font|Pen|Brush]List to wxPython.
155
1af9e5c5 156Also added wxTheColourDatabase and added a library module (in the
19cf4f80
RD
157wxPython.lib.colourdb module) to load LOTS more colour names into the
158colour database.
159
6e18ca6c
RD
160Added wxWakeUpMainThread, wxMutexGuiEnter, wxMutexGuiLeave,
161wxMutexGuiLocker and wxThread_IsMain to assist with dealing with GUI
162access from non-GUI threads.
163
1af9e5c5
RD
164wxPyOnDemandOutputWindow is now (more) thread safe if non-GUI threads
165use print, sys.stdout.write, etc.
6e18ca6c 166
6bb38ab6
RD
167Added CreateTextSizer and CreateButtonSizer to wxDialog
168
6bb38ab6
RD
169Added wxPython/lib/infoframe.py from Chris Fama. It contains a class
170that can be used in place of wxPyOnDemandOutputWindow.
171
49875c53
RD
172Added colourselect.py, imagebrowser.py and an updated calendar.py to
173wxPython/lib from Lorne White.
174
e0672e2f
RD
175Added patch to wxPoint_LIST_helper from Tim Hochberg that should make
176it gobs faster in certain situations.
6bb38ab6 177
1af9e5c5
RD
178Added tools that will take an image file in a wx supported format and
179convert it to data embedded in a Python source file. The image is
9416aa89
RD
180converted to XPM format which is essentially a list of strings
181containing info about each pixel. The image's transparency mask is
182included, if there is one, or a mask can be added if a mask colour is
183specified on the command line. It is then pickled and optionally
184compressed and written to a Python source file along with functions to
185convert it to either a wxBitmap or a wxImage. See
186wxPython/demo/images.py for examples, and wxPython/Tools/img2py.py for
187the implementation.
1af9e5c5
RD
188
189Fixed wxStyledTextCtrl to be much faster on wxGTK. There was some
190experimental code that got left in place that ended up causing way too
191many refreshes.
192
d1679124
RD
193A couple more hacks in my_distutils.py so wxPython can be built with
194the distutils that comes with Python 2.1.
1af9e5c5 195
d7ec6564 196Added a ton of missing methods for wxPrintData.
1af9e5c5 197
d7ec6564 198Switched to InnoSetup for MSW distributions.
19cf4f80 199
3b36695d
RD
200Added wxToggleButton.
201
202Fixed bug that prevented wxTreeCtrl.OnCompareItems from being called.
d1679124 203
9416aa89
RD
204Added some methods to wxGrid:
205 GetCellHighlightPenWidth
206 GetCellHighlightROPenWidth
207 SetCellHighlightPenWidth
208 SetCellHighlightROPenWidth
209 GetGridWindow
210 GetGridRowLabelWindow
211 GetGridColLabelWindow
212 GetGridCornerLabelWindow
213
214Added wxGetClientDisplayRect which on wxMSW returns a wxRect
215representing the area on screen not occupied by the taskbar and such.
216On other platforms it is equivallent to wxGetDisplaySize.
217
218
219***---***---***---***---***---***---***---***---***---***---***---
220 Implemented the first phase of OOR (Original Object Return). See
221 the text in the demo for more details of what this means, but in a
222 nutshell methods such as wxWindow.GetParent or FindWindowById will
223 now return a shadow object of the proper type if it can. By
224 "proper type" I mean that if the wxWindow pointer returned from
225 FindWindowById really points to a wxButton then the Python object
226 constructed will be of a wxButtonPtr class instead of wxWindowPtr
227 as before. This should reduce or eliminiate the need for
228 wxPyTypeCast. (Woo Hoo!) The objects returned are still not the
229 original Python object, but that is the next step. (Although it
230 will probably only work on Python 2.1 and beyond because it will
231 use weak references.)
232
233 This first phase of the OOR plan is fairly significant and has
234 required a lot of changes all over wxPython, most of which should
235 be transparent to you, however I'm not 100% sure that it didn't
236 introduce any new bugs that are hiding somewhere and didn't get
237 stomped on during my testing. So please be sure to test everything
238 thoroughly when you install this version and be sure to report any
239 object-type related oddities to me.
240***---***---***---***---***---***---***---***---***---***---***---
241
242There is now a wxObject class that most other classes derive from like
243in C++, but the methods provided don't really match but are wxPython
bf7945ce
RD
244specific. It could have been added long ago but OOR required it so it
245finally got done.
9416aa89
RD
246
247Finally added wxPyLineShape.GetLineControlPoints, which has been on my
248list for a while. The above OOR modification made this easier.
d1679124 249
10e07c70 250Fixed the __cmp__ methods for wxPoint and others.
419c299a 251
493f1553
RD
252Added wxWave.
253
30aaddfe
RD
254Added the wxPython.lib.mixins package to the library, it is where
255useful mix-in classes can be placed. Currently there is one to help
bf7945ce
RD
256make the columns in a wxListCtrl sortable, and the MagicIMageList from
257Mike Fletcher. If you have any custom code that can be factored out
258of existing classes into a mix-in that would be useful to others
30aaddfe
RD
259please send it to me for inclusion in this package.
260
25832b3f
RD
261Added a few little sample applications to help newbies to get started
262by having smaller functional apps to play with. They can be found in
263wxPython/samples.
264
493f1553 265
19cf4f80
RD
266
267
b075a3bb
RD
2682.2.6
269-----
270
271No changes happened in the Python wrappers for this release, only
272changes and fixes in the wxWindows library.
273
1b62f00d 274
19cf4f80 275
1b62f00d 2762.2.5
185d7c3e
RD
277-----
278
279New typemaps for wxString when compiling for Python 2.0 and beyond
280that allow Unicode objects to be passed as well as String objects. If
281a Unicode object is passed PyString_AsStringAndSize is used to convert
282it to a wxString using the default encoding.
283
284Fixed the generic buttons so tool tips work for them.
285
286Fixed a bug in the demo's tree control.
287
288Added a listbox to the listbox demo that shows how to find items with
1e7ecb7b 289a matching prefix as keys are typed.
185d7c3e
RD
290
291Added code to the wxListCtrl demo to show how to get text from a
292column in report mode.
293
294Added code to the toolbar demo to clear the long help from the status
295bar after 2 seconds.
296
297Added wxJoystick.
298
299Fixed wxTimer so it can be used as described in the docs, either with
300a Notify method in a subclass, or sending an event to a wxEvtHandler
301object, (usually a window.)
302
303Added wxNotifyEvent.Allow()
304
de20db99
RD
305Fixed GOBS of reference leaks.
306
1e7ecb7b
RD
307Massive code changes and cleanup to allow wxPython to be split into
308multiple extension modules again. A Python CObject is used to allow
1b62f00d
RD
309the "export" of SWIG functions and other common helper functions from
310the wxc module to other modules, even if they are in separate shared
1e7ecb7b
RD
311libraries. Should also be usable from 3rd party code, just include
312wxPython/src/export.h
313
314Changed the default setup so the following are built as separate
315extension modules: calendar, glcanvas, grid, html, ogl, stc, and
316utils. Will probably add more later.
317
1b62f00d
RD
318Changed the wxPrinterDC to use the new constructor taking a
319wxPrintData object. The old ctor is still there using the
320wxPrinterDC2 name.
321
322Added wxPython.lib.anchors.py from Riaan Booysen. It contains a class
323that implements Delphi's Anchors with wxLayoutConstraints.
324
325Added wxPython.lib.fancytext from Timothy Hochberg.
326
327Changed the GenericButtons to send their event in idle time, so the
328mouse won't be captured when the event handler is called.
329
330Added wxPython.lib.rpcMixin from Greg Landrum, although it's not
331integrated with the demo yet. It allows a wxPython GUI to be an
332XML-RPC server.
333
185d7c3e
RD
334
335
c368d904
RD
336New in 2.2.2
337------------
338
339Significantly changed how the wxStyledtextCtrl code that wraps
340Scintilla is implemented. Most of it is now automatically generated
341from an interface definition file provided by Scintilla. This means
342that it will be much easier to stay in sync with new Scintilla
343releases, but also means that some of the method and identifier names
344have changed. See wxPython/demo/data/stc.h for a copy of the C++
345interface from which the Python interface is generated. There is now
346some inline documentation in that file that should really help explain
347how things work.
348
349I am now using the Python Distutils to build wxPython and to make some
350of the distribution files. (See http://www.python.org/sigs/distutils-sig/)
351This means no more messing with my kludgy build.py/Makefile hack,
352builds will be more consistent with other Python extensions that also
353use Distutils, and will hopefully make wxPython easier to build for
354platforms where there have been troubles before. If you are building
355wxPython for Python 1.5.2 or for 1.6, then you will need to get and
356install version 1.0 of Distutils from the website above. If you are
357using Python 2.0 then you already have it.
358
359Added wxInputStream and the wxFileSystem family of classes,
360contributed by Joerg Baumann.
361
362Added wxProcess and support for it to wxExecute. wxProcess lets you
363get notified when an asyncronous child process terminates, and also to
364get input/output streams for the child process's stdout, stderr and
365stdin.
366
367Removed the old python sizers.
368
369Added __add__, __sub__ and __cmp__ (equality check only) for wxPoint
370and wxRealPoint.
371
372Changed the build to make one big extension module instead of one for
373the core and each contrib. This allowed me to do away with the
374libwxPyHelpers.so on unix systems.
375
376Lots of little fixes here and there.
377
378Some hacks on wxGTK to try and make the AutoComplete listbox in the
379wxStyledTextCtrl to behave better. It's still not as nice as on
380wxMSW, but at least it's a bit more usable now.
381
382
383
384
3ca6a5f0
BP
385New in 2.2.1
386------------
387
388Various tweaks, fixes, missing methods, etc.
389
c368d904
RD
390Added example use of wxTaskBarIcon to the demo.
391
3ca6a5f0
BP
392
393
f6bcfd97
BP
394New in 2.2.0
395------------
396
397Added wxLog and friends.
398
399Added wxFrame.ShowFullScreen for MSW.
400
401Added PyShellWindow to the wxPython.lib package.
402
403
404
405New in 2.1.16
406-------------
407
408Added an attribute named labelDelta to the generic buttons that
409specifies how far to offset the label when the button is in the
410depressed state.
411
412Added wxTipProvider and friends. See the demo for an example.
413
414wxGrid can now change the cell highlight colour.
415
416Added wxDragImage.
417
418Fixed printing on wxGTK.
419
420Added wxDateTime, wxTimeSpan, and wxDateSpan to wxPython.utils.
421
422Added wxCalendarCtrl.
423
424WARNING: A while back I asked what should be done about the Magic
425Method Names. (Methods that are automatically turned into event
426handlers by virtue of their name.) The consensus was that it is more
427confusing to have them than to try and expand them to have greater
428coverage. I am finally getting around to removing the code that
429generates the event binding. This means that if you are using any of
430the following method names without a EVT_* call that you need to
431modify your code to add the EVT_* to hook the event to the method.
432
433 OnChar
434 OnSize
435 OnEraseBackground
436 OnSysColourChanged
437 OnInitDialog
438 OnPaint
439 OnIdle
440 OnActivate
441 OnMenuHighlight
442 OnCloseWindow
443 OnScroll
444
445Added wxSpinCtrl.
446
447
448
449
450New in 2.1.15
164b735b
RD
451-------------
452
453Fixed wxTreeCtrl.HitTest to return both the tree item as well as the
454flags that clairify where the click was in relation to the item.
455
854862f5
RD
456Fixed thread state problem in wxTreeCtrl.GetBoundingBox and
457GetSelections.
164b735b 458
99ab9f3b
RD
459Fixed some problems in OGL. Also wxShape.SetClientData and
460.GetClientData can now deal with Python objects.
714d23b4 461
dcd38683 462Added wxListCtrl.SortItems and changed the demo to show how to use it.
714d23b4 463
f6bcfd97
BP
464Plugged a memory leak.
465
466Wrapped the new wxGrid and friends. The old wxGrid class is no longer
467available. There are some incompatibilities, and unfortunately the
468new classes are not documented yet, (however the methods are more
469consistent with each other now so you may be able to guess pretty
470good...)
471
472Updated filebrowsebutton.py and calendar.py with changes from their
473authors. There is now a FileBrowseButtonWithHistory class (what a
474mouthful!) and wxCalendar has printing support.
475
476Added ActiveXWrapper to the library, and some good demos of it too.
477It works great for embedding a COM (a.k.a OCX, a.k.a ActiveX) control
478in a window and calling its methods. It actually creates a new class
479on the fly that derives from wxWindow, the COM CoClass and others
480needed to make it all work. The resulting class can be instantiated
481just like wxWindow, used in sizers, etc. It also responds to all COM
482method calls, properties, etc., and if the class or a mix-in has
483matching method names, then the COM events will be propogated back to
484them.
485
486Created a typemap that allows a string to be used for parameters
487expecting a wxColour type. The string is either a colour name as
488defined in the wxColourDatabase, or a colour spec of the form
489"#RRGGBB". See the wxStyledTextCtrl demo for an example.
490
491I almost forgot to mention the wxStyledTextCtrl! Yes, the
492wxStyledTextCtrl is finally in wxPython!! (And the crowd goes
493wild...) There's no documentaTion yet (the crowd boos and hisses...)
494but I've included a very readable source file in the
495wxPython/demo/data directory, a couple fairly good examples, and you
496can also refer to the Scintilla documentaion at
497http://www.scintilla.org/ScintillaDoc.html to help fill in the gaps
498until the docs are done. (The croud murmers contentedly as the tool
499provider smiles convincingly and removes his flame-proof suit.)

508Updated wxMVCTree and added a demo for it, also fixed layout on GTK
509and some flicker problems.
510
511Added a wrapper class for the Visualization ToolKit (or VTK) in the
512wxPython.lib.vtk module. (http://www.kitware.com/)
513
514Fixed wxTreeCtrl.SetItemImage and GetItemImage to recognise the new
515"which" parameter.
516
517Added wxPython.lib.spashscreen from Mike Fletcher.
518
519Added wxPython.lib.filebrowsebutton also from Mike Fletcher.
520
521Renamed wxTreeCtrl.GetParent to GetItemParent to avoid a name clash
522with wxWindow.GetParent.
523
524Added wxIntersectRect to compute the intersection of two wxRect's.
525It is used like this:
526
527 intersect = wxIntersectRect(rect1, rect2)
528
529If r1 and r2 don't intersect then None is returned, otherwise the
530rectangle representing the intersection is returned.
531
532Some bug fixes for Clipboard and Drag-n-Drop.
533
9b3d3bc4 534Rotated text!!! WooHoo! (See wxDC.DrawRotatedText())

RD
535
536Added a set of Generic Buttons to the library. These are simple
537window classes that look and act like native buttons, but you can have
538a bit more control over them. The bezel width can be set in addition
539to colours, fonts, etc. There is a ToggleButton as well as Bitmap

540versions too. They should also serve as a good example of how to
541create your own classes derived from wxControl.

543The C++ wxToolBar classes have been redone, and so have the wxPython
544wrappers. There have been slight modifications to some of the methods
545but shouldn't impact anybody too much. I took the opportunity to add
546support for setting user data on each toolbar tool. The new AddTool
547methods look like this:
548
549 def AddTool(ID,
550 bitmap,
551 pushedBitmap = wxNullBitmap,
552 toggle = FALSE,
553 clientData = NULL,
554 shortHelpString = "",
555 longHelpString = "")
556
557 def AddSimpleTool(ID,
558 bitmap,
559 shortHelpString = "",
560 longHelpString = "",
561 toggle=FALSE)
562
563
564There are also coresponding InsertTool and InsertSimpleTool methods
565that additionally take an integer position as the first parameter.
566
9e57c2a0 567Added a wrapper for the new PCX and TIFF ImageHandlers.

589What's new in 2.1.11
590--------------------
591Skipped a few version numbers so wxMSW, wxGTK and wxPython are all
592syncronized.
593
594wxImage.SetData now makes a copy of the image data before giving it to
595wxImage. I mistakenly thought that wxImage would copy the data
596itself.
597
598Fixed wxMSW's notebook so the pages get their size set as they are
599being added. This should remove the need for our
600wxNotebook.ResizeChildren hack.
601
602wxPanels now support AutoLayout, and wxNotebooks and wxSplitterWindows
603no longer tell their children to Layout() themselves. This will
604probably only effect you if you have a wxWindow with AutoLayout inside
605a notebook or splitter. If so, either change it to a wxPanel or add
606an EVT_SIZE handler that calls Layout().
607
608Fixed deadlock problem that happened when using threads.
609
610Added new HTML printing classes.
611
612Added wxWindow.GetHandle
613
614Apparently wxMouseEvent.Position has been depreciated in wxWindows as
615it is no longer available by default. You can use GetPositionTuple
616(returning a tuple with x,y) instead, or GetPosition (returning a
617wxPoint.)
618
619Added wxPostEvent function that allows events to be posted and then
620processed later. This is a thread-safe way to interact with the GUI
621thread from other threads.
622
623Added Clipboard and Drag-and-Drop classes.
624
625Added wxFontEnumerator.
626
627Many updates to wxMenu, wxMenuBar.
628
629wxPyEvent and wxPyCommandEvent derived classes now give you the actual
630Python object in the event handler instead of a new shadow.
631
632Added a Calendar widget from Lorne White to the library.
633
634Made some fixes to the wxFloatbar. It still has some troubles on
635wxGTK...
636
637Added an MVC tree control from Bryn Keller to the library.

642What's new in 2.1.5
643-------------------
644This is a quick bug-fix release to take care of a few nasties that
645crept in at the last minute before 2.1.4 was called done. No new
646major features.
647
648
649
650What's new in 2.1.4
651--------------------
652
653This release is NOT syncronized with a snapshot release of wxGTK or
654wxMSW. For MSW this isn't much of a problem since you can get the
655binaries from the web site. For other platforms you'll have to build
656wxGTK from CVS. (See http://web.ukonline.co.uk/julian.smart/wxwin/cvs.htm)
657To get the same set of sources from CVS that I used, checkout using
658the wxPy-2-1-4 tag.
659
660Now back to what's new...
661
662Much more support for event-less callbacks and add-on modules.
663
664Created add-on module with wxOGL classes.
665
666Added wxWindow.GetChildren(). Be careful of this. It returns a *copy*
667of the list of the window's children. While you are using the list if
668anything changes in the real list (a child is deleted, etc.) then the
669list you are holding will suddenly have window references to garbage
670memory and your app will likely crash. But if you are careful it works
671great!
672
673Added a bunch of new and missing methods to wxTreeCrtl. The
674SortChildren method is now supported, but currently only for the
675default sort order.
676
677Added typemaps for wxSize, wxPoint, wxRealPoint, and wxRect that allow
678either the actual objects or Python sequence values to be used. For
679example, the following are equivallent:
680
681 win = wxWindow(parent, size = wxSize(100, 100))
682 win = wxWindow(parent, size = (100, 100))
683
684Super-charged the wxHtml module. You can now create your own tag
685handlers and also have access to the parser and cell classes. There
686is a tag handler in the library at wxPython.lib.wxpTag that
687understands the WXP tag and is able to place wxPython windows on HTML
688pages. See the demo for an example.
689
690A bunch of the methods of wxMenuBar were previously ifdef'd out for
691wxGTK. Added them back in since the methods exist now.
692
693Wrapped the wxHtmlHelpController and related classes.
694
695Wrapped the C++ versions of wxSizer and friends. The Python-only
696versions are still in the library, but depreciated. (You will get a
697warning message if you try to use them, but the warning can be
698disabled.) The usage of the C++ versions is slightly different, and
699the functionality of wxBorderSizer is now part of wxBoxSizer. I have
700added a few methods to wxSizer to try and make the transition as
701smooth as possible, I combined all Add methods into a single method
702that handles all cases, added an AddMany method, etc. One step I did
703not take was to make the default value of flag in the Add method be
704wxGROW. This would have made it more backward compatible, but less
705portable to and from wxWin C++ code. Please see the docs and demo for
706further details.
707
708Added wxPyEvent and wxPyCommandEvent classes, derived from wxEvent and
709wxCommandEvent. Each of them has SetPyData and GetPyData methods that
710accept or return a single Python object. You can use these classes
711directly or derive from them to create your own types of event objects
712that can pass through the wxWindows event system without loosing their
713Python parts (as long as they are stored with SetPyData.) Stay tuned
714for more info and examples in future releases.
715
716Added wxPython.lib.grids as an example of how to derive a new sizer
717from the C++ sizers. In this module you will find wxGridSizer and
718wxFlexGridSizer. wxGridSizer arrainges its items in a grid in which
719all the widths and heights are the same. wxFlexgridSizer allows
720different widths and heights, and you can also specify rows and/or
721columns that are growable. See the demo for a couple examples for how
722to use them.
723
724Added the wxValidator class, and created a class named wxPyValidator
725that should be used for the base class of any Python validators. See
726the demo for an example. Please note that you MUST implement a Clone
727method in your validator classes because of the way some things work
728in the underlying C++ library. I did not add wxTextValidator because
729of some issues of how it transfers data to and from a wxString, which
730in wxPython is automatically translated to and from Python strings, so
731there would never be a concrete wxString that would hang around long
732enough for the validator to do its job. On the other hand, it should
733be real easy to duplicate the functionality of wxTextValidator in a
734pure Python class derived from wxPyValidator.
735
736I've finally added a feature that has been on my list for close to two
737years! Ever wondered what that zero is for when you create your app
738object? Well now you can leave it out or explicitly set it to a true
739value. This value now controls what is to be done with sys.stdout and
740sys.stderr. A false value leaves them alone, and a true value sets
741them to an instance of wxPyOnDemandOutputWindow. (On windows the
742default is true, on unix platforms the default is false.) This class
743creates a frame containing a wxTextCtrl as soon as anything is written
744to sys.stdout or sys.stderr. If you close the window it will come
745back again the next time something is written. (You can call
746app.RestoreStdio to turn this off.) If you would rather that the stdio be
747redirected to a file, you can provide a second parameter to your app
748object's constructor that is a filename. If you want to use your own
749class instead of wxPyOnDemandOutputWindow you can either implement
750RedirectStdio() in you app class or change the value of
751wxApp.outputWindowClass like this:
752
753 class MyApp(wxApp):
754 outputWindowClass = MyClass
755
756 def OnInit(self):
757 frame = MyFrame()
758 self.SetTopWindow(frame)
759 return true
760
761Please see the implementation of wxPyOnDemandOutputWindow and wxApp in
762wx.py for more details. A few words of caution: if you are running
763your app in a debugger, changing sys.stdout and sys.stderr is likely
764to really screw things up.
765
766Added wxCaret. Unfortunately it's author has still not documented it
767in the wxWindows docs...
768
769Some new 3rd party contributions in wxPython.lib. PyShell, in
770shell.py is an interesting implementaion of an interactive Python
771shell in wxWindows. floatbar.py has a class derived from wxToolBar
772that can sense mouse drags and then reparent itself into another
773frame. Moving the new frame close to where it came from puts the tool
774bar back into the original parent. (Unfortunately there is currently
775a bug in wxGTK's wxFrame.SetToolBar so the FloatBar has some
776problems...)
777
778
779
780
781What's new in 2.1b3
782--------------------
783
784This release is syncronized with release 2.1 snapshot 9 of wxWindows.
785
786Switched to using SWIG from CVS (see http://swig.cs.uchicago.edu/cvs.html)
787for some of the new features and such. Also they have encorporated my
788patches so there is really no reason to stick with the current (very
789old) release... This version of SWIG gives the following new
790features:
791
792 1. Keyword arguments. You no longer have to specify all the
793 parameters with defaults to a method just to specify a
794 non-default value on the end. You can now do this instead:
795
796 win = wxWindow(parent, -1, style = mystyle)
797
798 2. There is now an an equivalence between Python's None and C++'s
799 NULL. This means that any methods that might return NULL will
800 now return None and you can use none where wxWindows might be
801 expecting NULL. This makes things much more snake-ish.
802
803
804There is a new build system based on a new Python program instead of
805raw makefiles. Now wxPython builds are virtually the same on MSW or
806Unix systems. See the end of this file for new build instructions and
807see distrib/build.py for more details.
808
809wxDC.Bilt now includes the useMask parameter, and has been split into
810two different versions. wxDC.BlitXY is like what was there before and
811takes raw coordinants and sizes, and the new wxDC.Blit is for the new
812interface using wxPoints and a wxSize.
813
814
815
816
817
818What's new in 2.1b2
819--------------------
820
821Added the missing wxWindow.GetUpdateRegion() method.
822
823Made a new change in SWIG (update your patches everybody) that
824provides a fix for global shadow objects that get an exception in
825their __del__ when their extension module has already been deleted.
826It was only a 1 line change in .../SWIG/Modules/pycpp.cxx at about
827line 496 if you want to do it by hand.
828
829It is now possible to run through MainLoop more than once in any one
830process. The cleanup that used to happen as MainLoop completed (and
831prevented it from running again) has been delayed until the wxc module
832is being unloaded by Python.
833
834I fixed a bunch of stuff in the C++ version of wxGrid so it wouldn't
835make wxPython look bad.
836
837wxWindow.PopupMenu() now takes a wxPoint instead of x,y. Added
838wxWindow.PopupMenuXY to be consistent with some other methods.
839
840Added wxGrid.SetEditInPlace and wxGrid.GetEditInPlace.
841
842You can now provide your own app.MainLoop method. See
843wxPython/demo/demoMainLoop.py for an example and some explaination.
844
845Got the in-place-edit for the wxTreeCtrl fixed and added some demo
846code to show how to use it.
847
848Put the wxIcon constructor back in for GTK as it now has one that
849matches MSW's.
850
851Added wxGrid.GetCells
852
853Added wxSystemSettings static methods as functions with names like
854wxSystemSettings_GetSystemColour.
855
856Removed wxPyMenu since using menu callbacks have been depreciated in
857wxWindows. Use wxMenu and events instead.
858
859Added alternate wxBitmap constructor (for MSW only) as
860 wxBitmapFromData(data, type, width, height, depth = 1)
861
862Added a helper function named wxPyTypeCast that can convert shadow
863objects of one type into shadow objects of another type. (Like doing
864a down-cast.) See the implementation in wx.py for some docs.
865
866Fixed wxImage GetData and SetData to properly use String objects for
867data transfer.
868
869Added access methods to wxGridEvent.
870
871New Makefile/Setup files supporting multiple dynamic extension modules
872for unix systems.
873
874Fixes for the wxGLCanvas demo to work around a strange bug in gtk.
875
876SWIG support routines now compiled separately instead of being bundled
877in wx.cpp.
878
879
880
881
882
883What's new in 2.1b1
884--------------------
885Fixed wxComboBox.SetSelection so that it actually sets the selected
886item. (Actually just removed it from wxPython and let it default to
887wxChoice.SetSelection which was already doing the right thing.)
888
889Added the Printing Framework.
890
891Switched back to using the wxWindows DLL for the pre-built Win32
892version. The problem was needing to reinitialize static class info
893data after loading each extension module.
894
895Lots of little tweaks and additions to reflect changes to various
896wxWindows classes.
897
898Fixed a bug with attaching objects to tree items. Actually was a
899symptom of a larger problem with not obtaining the interpreter lock
900when doing any Py_DECREFs.
901
902wxSizer and friends. Sizers are layout tools that manage a colection
903of windows and sizers. Different types of sizers apply different
904types of layout algorithms. You saw it here first! These classes are
905not even in the wxWindows C++ library yet!
906
907
908
909What's new in 2.0b9
910-------------------
911Bug fix for ListCtrl in test4.py (Was a missing file... DSM!)
912
913Bug fix for occassional GPF on Win32 systems upon termination of a
914wxPython application.
915
916Added wxListBox.GetSelections returning selections as a Tuple.
917
918Added a wxTreeItemData that is able to hold any Python object and be
919associated with items in a wxTreeCtrl. Added test pytree.py to show
920this feature off.
921
922Added wxSafeYield function.
923
924OpenGL Canvas can be optionally compiled in to wxPython.
925
926Awesome new Demo Framework for showing off wxPython and for learning
927how it all works.
928
929The pre-built Win32 version is no longer distributing the wxWindows
930DLL. It is statically linked with the wxWindows library instead.
931
932Added a couple missing items from the docs.
933
934Added wxImage, wxImageHandler, wxPNGHandler, wxJPEGHandler,
935wxGIFHandler and wxBMPHandler.
936
937Added new methods to wxTextCtrl.
938
939Fixed some problems with how SWIG was wrapping some wxTreeCtrl
940methods.
941
942
943
944What's new in 2.0b8
945-------------------
946Support for using Python threads in wxPython apps.
947
948Several missing methods from various classes.
949
950Various bug fixes.
951
952
953
954What's new in 2.0b7
955-------------------
956Added DLG_PNT and DLG_SZE convienience methods to wxWindow class.
957
958Added missing constructor and other methods for wxMenuItem.
959
960
961
962What's new in 2.0b6
963-------------------
964Just a quickie update to fix the self-installer to be compatible with
965Python 1.5.2b2's Registry settings.
966
967
968What's new in 2.0b5
969-------------------
970Well obviously the numbering scheme has changed. I did this to
971reflect the fact that this truly is the second major revision of
972wxPython, (well the third actually if you count the one I did for
973wxWindows 1.68 and then threw away...) and also that it is associated
974with the 2.0 version of wxWindows.
975
976I have finally started documenting wxPython. There are several pages
977in the wxWindows documentation tree specifically about wxPython, and I
978have added notes within the class references about where and how wxPython
979diverges from wxWindows.
980
981Added wxWindow_FromHWND(hWnd) for wxMSW to construct a wxWindow from a
982window handle. If you can get the window handle into the python code,
983it should just work... More news on this later.
984
985Added wxImageList, wxToolTip.
986
987Re-enabled wxConfig.DeleteAll() since it is reportedly fixed for the
988wxRegConfig class.
989
990As usual, some bug fixes, tweaks, etc.
991
992
993
994What's new in 0.5.3
995-------------------
996Added wxSashWindow, wxSashEvent, wxLayoutAlgorithm, etc.
997
998Various cleanup, tweaks, minor additions, etc. to maintain
999compatibility with the current wxWindows.
1000
1001
1002
1003What's new in 0.5.0
1004-------------------
1005Changed the import semantics from "from wxPython import *" to "from
1006wxPython.wx import *" This is for people who are worried about
1007namespace pollution, they can use "from wxPython import wx" and then
1008prefix all the wxPython identifiers with "wx."
1009
1010Added wxTaskbarIcon for wxMSW.
1011
1012Made the events work for wxGrid.
1013
1014Added wxConfig.
1015
1016Added wxMiniFrame for wxGTK.
1017
1018Changed many of the args and return values that were pointers to gdi
1019objects to references to reflect changes in the wxWindows API.
1020
1021Other assorted fixes and additions.
1022
1023
1024
1025
1026What's new in 0.4.2
1027-------------------
1028
1029wxPython on wxGTK works!!! Both dynamic and static on Linux and
1030static on Solaris have been tested. Many thanks go to Harm
1031<H.v.d.Heijden@phys.tue.nl> for his astute detective work on tracking
1032down a nasty DECREF bug. Okay so I have to confess that it was just a
1033DSM (Dumb Stupid Mistake) on my part but it was nasty none the less
1034because the behavior was so different on different platforms.
1035
1036The dynamicly loaded module on Solaris is still segfaulting, so it
1037must have been a different issue all along...
1038
1039
1040
1041What's New in 0.4
1042-----------------
1043
10441. Worked on wxGTK compatibility. It is partially working. On a
1045Solaris/Sparc box wxPython is working but only when it is statically
1046linked with the Python interpreter. When built as a dyamically loaded
1047extension module, things start acting weirdly and it soon seg-faults.
1048And on Linux both the statically linked and the dynamically linked
1049version segfault shortly after starting up.
1050
10512. Added Toolbar, StatusBar and SplitterWindow classes.
1052
10533. Varioius bug fixes, enhancements, etc.
1054
1055----------------------------------------------------------------------
