19cf4f80
RD
5?????
6-----
7Removed initial startup dependency on the OpenGL DLLs so only the
8glcanvasc.pyd depends on them.
9
10Changed wxFont, wxPen, wxBrush to not implicitly use the
11wxThe[Font|Pen|Brush]List behind the scenes, but to use normal ctor
12and dtors.
13
14Exposed the wxThe[Font|Pen|Brush]List to wxPython.
15
1af9e5c5 16Also added wxTheColourDatabase and added a library module (in the
19cf4f80
RD
17wxPython.lib.colourdb module) to load LOTS more colour names into the
18colour database.
19
6e18ca6c
RD
20Added wxWakeUpMainThread, wxMutexGuiEnter, wxMutexGuiLeave,
21wxMutexGuiLocker and wxThread_IsMain to assist with dealing with GUI
22access from non-GUI threads.
23
1af9e5c5
RD
24wxPyOnDemandOutputWindow is now (more) thread safe if non-GUI threads
25use print, sys.stdout.write, etc.
6e18ca6c 26
6bb38ab6
RD
27Added CreateTextSizer and CreateButtonSizer to wxDialog
28
6bb38ab6
RD
29Added wxPython/lib/infoframe.py from Chris Fama. It contains a class
30that can be used in place of wxPyOnDemandOutputWindow.
31
49875c53
RD
32Added colourselect.py, imagebrowser.py and an updated calendar.py to
33wxPython/lib from Lorne White.
34
e0672e2f
RD
35Added patch to wxPoint_LIST_helper from Tim Hochberg that should make
36it gobs faster in certain situations.
6bb38ab6 37
1af9e5c5
RD
38Added tools that will take an image file in a wx supported format and
39convert it to data embedded in a Python source file. The image is
40converted to XPM format (with its transparency mask intact, if there
41is one) which is essentially a list of strings containing info about
42each pixel. It is then pickled and optionally compressed and written
43to a Python source file along with functions to convert it to either a
44wxBitmap or a wxImage. See wxPython/demo/images.py for examples, and
d7ec6564 45wxPython/Tools/img2py.py for the implementation.
1af9e5c5
RD
46
47Fixed wxStyledTextCtrl to be much faster on wxGTK. There was some
48experimental code that got left in place that ended up causing way too
49many refreshes.
50
51A couple hacks in my_distutils.py so wxPython can be built with the
52distutils that comes with Python 2.1.
53
d7ec6564 54Added a ton of missing methods for wxPrintData.
1af9e5c5 55
d7ec6564 56Switched to InnoSetup for MSW distributions.

70
71New typemaps for wxString when compiling for Python 2.0 and beyond
72that allow Unicode objects to be passed as well as String objects. If
73a Unicode object is passed PyString_AsStringAndSize is used to convert
74it to a wxString using the default encoding.
75
76Fixed the generic buttons so tool tips work for them.
77
78Fixed a bug in the demo's tree control.
79
80Added a listbox to the listbox demo that shows how to find items with
1e7ecb7b 81a matching prefix as keys are typed.
185d7c3e
RD
82
83Added code to the wxListCtrl demo to show how to get text from a
84column in report mode.
85
86Added code to the toolbar demo to clear the long help from the status
87bar after 2 seconds.
88
89Added wxJoystick.
90
91Fixed wxTimer so it can be used as described in the docs, either with
92a Notify method in a subclass, or sending an event to a wxEvtHandler
93object, (usually a window.)
94
95Added wxNotifyEvent.Allow()
96
de20db99
RD
97Fixed GOBS of reference leaks.
98
1e7ecb7b
RD
99Massive code changes and cleanup to allow wxPython to be split into
100multiple extension modules again. A Python CObject is used to allow
1b62f00d
RD
101the "export" of SWIG functions and other common helper functions from
102the wxc module to other modules, even if they are in separate shared
1e7ecb7b
RD
103libraries. Should also be usable from 3rd party code, just include
104wxPython/src/export.h
105
106Changed the default setup so the following are built as separate
107extension modules: calendar, glcanvas, grid, html, ogl, stc, and
108utils. Will probably add more later.
109
1b62f00d
RD
110Changed the wxPrinterDC to use the new constructor taking a
111wxPrintData object. The old ctor is still there using the
112wxPrinterDC2 name.
113
114Added wxPython.lib.anchors.py from Riaan Booysen. It contains a class
115that implements Delphi's Anchors with wxLayoutConstraints.
116
117Added wxPython.lib.fancytext from Timothy Hochberg.
118
119Changed the GenericButtons to send their event in idle time, so the
120mouse won't be captured when the event handler is called.
121
122Added wxPython.lib.rpcMixin from Greg Landrum, although it's not
123integrated with the demo yet. It allows a wxPython GUI to be an
124XML-RPC server.

128New in 2.2.2
129------------
130
131Significantly changed how the wxStyledtextCtrl code that wraps
132Scintilla is implemented. Most of it is now automatically generated
133from an interface definition file provided by Scintilla. This means
134that it will be much easier to stay in sync with new Scintilla
135releases, but also means that some of the method and identifier names
136have changed. See wxPython/demo/data/stc.h for a copy of the C++
137interface from which the Python interface is generated. There is now
138some inline documentation in that file that should really help explain
139how things work.
140
141I am now using the Python Distutils to build wxPython and to make some
142of the distribution files. (See http://www.python.org/sigs/distutils-sig/)
143This means no more messing with my kludgy build.py/Makefile hack,
144builds will be more consistent with other Python extensions that also
145use Distutils, and will hopefully make wxPython easier to build for
146platforms where there have been troubles before. If you are building
147wxPython for Python 1.5.2 or for 1.6, then you will need to get and
148install version 1.0 of Distutils from the website above. If you are
149using Python 2.0 then you already have it.
150
151Added wxInputStream and the wxFileSystem family of classes,
152contributed by Joerg Baumann.
153
154Added wxProcess and support for it to wxExecute. wxProcess lets you
155get notified when an asyncronous child process terminates, and also to
156get input/output streams for the child process's stdout, stderr and
157stdin.
158
159Removed the old python sizers.
160
161Added __add__, __sub__ and __cmp__ (equality check only) for wxPoint
162and wxRealPoint.
163
164Changed the build to make one big extension module instead of one for
165the core and each contrib. This allowed me to do away with the
166libwxPyHelpers.so on unix systems.
167
168Lots of little fixes here and there.
169
170Some hacks on wxGTK to try and make the AutoComplete listbox in the
171wxStyledTextCtrl to behave better. It's still not as nice as on
172wxMSW, but at least it's a bit more usable now.

186New in 2.2.0
187------------
188
189Added wxLog and friends.
190
191Added wxFrame.ShowFullScreen for MSW.
192
193Added PyShellWindow to the wxPython.lib package.
194
195
196
197New in 2.1.16
198-------------
199
200Added an attribute named labelDelta to the generic buttons that
201specifies how far to offset the label when the button is in the
202depressed state.
203
204Added wxTipProvider and friends. See the demo for an example.
205
206wxGrid can now change the cell highlight colour.
207
208Added wxDragImage.
209
210Fixed printing on wxGTK.
211
212Added wxDateTime, wxTimeSpan, and wxDateSpan to wxPython.utils.
213
214Added wxCalendarCtrl.
215
216WARNING: A while back I asked what should be done about the Magic
217Method Names. (Methods that are automatically turned into event
218handlers by virtue of their name.) The consensus was that it is more
219confusing to have them than to try and expand them to have greater
220coverage. I am finally getting around to removing the code that
221generates the event binding. This means that if you are using any of
222the following method names without a EVT_* call that you need to
223modify your code to add the EVT_* to hook the event to the method.
224
225 OnChar
226 OnSize
227 OnEraseBackground
228 OnSysColourChanged
229 OnInitDialog
230 OnPaint
231 OnIdle
232 OnActivate
233 OnMenuHighlight
234 OnCloseWindow
235 OnScroll
236
237Added wxSpinCtrl.

242New in 2.1.15
164b735b
RD
243-------------
244
245Fixed wxTreeCtrl.HitTest to return both the tree item as well as the
246flags that clairify where the click was in relation to the item.
247
854862f5
RD
248Fixed thread state problem in wxTreeCtrl.GetBoundingBox and
249GetSelections.
164b735b 250
99ab9f3b
RD
251Fixed some problems in OGL. Also wxShape.SetClientData and
252.GetClientData can now deal with Python objects.
714d23b4 253
dcd38683 254Added wxListCtrl.SortItems and changed the demo to show how to use it.
714d23b4 255
f6bcfd97
BP
256Plugged a memory leak.
257
258Wrapped the new wxGrid and friends. The old wxGrid class is no longer
259available. There are some incompatibilities, and unfortunately the
260new classes are not documented yet, (however the methods are more
261consistent with each other now so you may be able to guess pretty
262good...)
263
264Updated filebrowsebutton.py and calendar.py with changes from their
265authors. There is now a FileBrowseButtonWithHistory class (what a
266mouthful!) and wxCalendar has printing support.
267
268Added ActiveXWrapper to the library, and some good demos of it too.
269It works great for embedding a COM (a.k.a OCX, a.k.a ActiveX) control
270in a window and calling its methods. It actually creates a new class
271on the fly that derives from wxWindow, the COM CoClass and others
272needed to make it all work. The resulting class can be instantiated
273just like wxWindow, used in sizers, etc. It also responds to all COM
274method calls, properties, etc., and if the class or a mix-in has
275matching method names, then the COM events will be propogated back to
276them.
277
278Created a typemap that allows a string to be used for parameters
279expecting a wxColour type. The string is either a colour name as
280defined in the wxColourDatabase, or a colour spec of the form
281"#RRGGBB". See the wxStyledTextCtrl demo for an example.
282
283I almost forgot to mention the wxStyledTextCtrl! Yes, the
284wxStyledTextCtrl is finally in wxPython!! (And the crowd goes
285wild...) There's no documentaTion yet (the crowd boos and hisses...)
286but I've included a very readable source file in the
287wxPython/demo/data directory, a couple fairly good examples, and you
288can also refer to the Scintilla documentaion at
289http://www.scintilla.org/ScintillaDoc.html to help fill in the gaps
290until the docs are done. (The croud murmers contentedly as the tool
291provider smiles convincingly and removes his flame-proof suit.)

9e57c2a0 296What's new in 2.1.13
6d75ea8f 297--------------------
9e57c2a0
RD
298Skipped a version number to match what has been released for wxGTK.
299
6d75ea8f
RD
300Updated wxMVCTree and added a demo for it, also fixed layout on GTK
301and some flicker problems.
302
303Added a wrapper class for the Visualization ToolKit (or VTK) in the
304wxPython.lib.vtk module. (http://www.kitware.com/)
305
306Fixed wxTreeCtrl.SetItemImage and GetItemImage to recognise the new
307"which" parameter.
308
309Added wxPython.lib.spashscreen from Mike Fletcher.
310
311Added wxPython.lib.filebrowsebutton also from Mike Fletcher.
312
313Renamed wxTreeCtrl.GetParent to GetItemParent to avoid a name clash
314with wxWindow.GetParent.
315
316Added wxIntersectRect to compute the intersection of two wxRect's.
317It is used like this:
318
319 intersect = wxIntersectRect(rect1, rect2)
320
321If r1 and r2 don't intersect then None is returned, otherwise the
322rectangle representing the intersection is returned.
323
324Some bug fixes for Clipboard and Drag-n-Drop.
325
9b3d3bc4 326Rotated text!!! WooHoo! (See wxDC.DrawRotatedText())
6999b0d8
RD
327
328Added a set of Generic Buttons to the library. These are simple
329window classes that look and act like native buttons, but you can have
330a bit more control over them. The bezel width can be set in addition
331to colours, fonts, etc. There is a ToggleButton as well as Bitmap
9e57c2a0
RD
332versions too. They should also serve as a good example of how to
333create your own classes derived from wxControl.
6d75ea8f 334
9b3d3bc4
RD
335The C++ wxToolBar classes have been redone, and so have the wxPython
336wrappers. There have been slight modifications to some of the methods
337but shouldn't impact anybody too much. I took the opportunity to add
338support for setting user data on each toolbar tool. The new AddTool
339methods look like this:
340
341 def AddTool(ID,
342 bitmap,
343 pushedBitmap = wxNullBitmap,
344 toggle = FALSE,
345 clientData = NULL,
346 shortHelpString = "",
347 longHelpString = "")
348
349 def AddSimpleTool(ID,
350 bitmap,
351 shortHelpString = "",
352 longHelpString = "",
353 toggle=FALSE)
354
355
356There are also coresponding InsertTool and InsertSimpleTool methods
357that additionally take an integer position as the first parameter.
358
9e57c2a0 359Added a wrapper for the new PCX and TIFF ImageHandlers.
9b3d3bc4
RD
360
361wxRect now simulates attributes named left, right, top and bottom.
362
d2103cf2
RD
363Removed all non wx stuff from the glcanvas module since DA's PyOpenGL
364is better and compatible with the wxGLCanvas. You can get it at
365http://starship.python.net:9673/crew/da/Code/PyOpenGL.
9b3d3bc4 366
3af4e610 367Added some missing EVT_ functions.
9b3d3bc4 368
1b55cabf
RD
369Added Dirk Holtwic's editor classes to the wxPython.lib.editor
370package.
371
eec92d76
RD
372Changed all the "LIST" parameter names to "choices" to match the docs.
373
fe366bc9
RD
374More fixes for the wxFloatBar, and it now works on wxGTK even better
375than wxMSW! (The feat is accomplished by using the wxTB_DOCKABLE
376style flag instead of trying to float it ourselves.)
377
9b3d3bc4 378
6d75ea8f
RD
379
380
381What's new in 2.1.11
382--------------------
383Skipped a few version numbers so wxMSW, wxGTK and wxPython are all
384syncronized.
385
386wxImage.SetData now makes a copy of the image data before giving it to
387wxImage. I mistakenly thought that wxImage would copy the data
388itself.
389
390Fixed wxMSW's notebook so the pages get their size set as they are
391being added. This should remove the need for our
392wxNotebook.ResizeChildren hack.
393
394wxPanels now support AutoLayout, and wxNotebooks and wxSplitterWindows
395no longer tell their children to Layout() themselves. This will
396probably only effect you if you have a wxWindow with AutoLayout inside
397a notebook or splitter. If so, either change it to a wxPanel or add
398an EVT_SIZE handler that calls Layout().
399
400Fixed deadlock problem that happened when using threads.
401
402Added new HTML printing classes.
403
404Added wxWindow.GetHandle
405
406Apparently wxMouseEvent.Position has been depreciated in wxWindows as
407it is no longer available by default. You can use GetPositionTuple
408(returning a tuple with x,y) instead, or GetPosition (returning a
409wxPoint.)
410
411Added wxPostEvent function that allows events to be posted and then
412processed later. This is a thread-safe way to interact with the GUI
413thread from other threads.
414
415Added Clipboard and Drag-and-Drop classes.
416
417Added wxFontEnumerator.
418
419Many updates to wxMenu, wxMenuBar.
420
421wxPyEvent and wxPyCommandEvent derived classes now give you the actual
422Python object in the event handler instead of a new shadow.
423
424Added a Calendar widget from Lorne White to the library.
425
426Made some fixes to the wxFloatbar. It still has some troubles on
427wxGTK...
428
429Added an MVC tree control from Bryn Keller to the library.
430
431
432
433
434What's new in 2.1.5
435-------------------
436This is a quick bug-fix release to take care of a few nasties that
437crept in at the last minute before 2.1.4 was called done. No new
438major features.
439
440
441
442What's new in 2.1.4
443--------------------
444
445This release is NOT syncronized with a snapshot release of wxGTK or
446wxMSW. For MSW this isn't much of a problem since you can get the
447binaries from the web site. For other platforms you'll have to build
448wxGTK from CVS. (See http://web.ukonline.co.uk/julian.smart/wxwin/cvs.htm)
449To get the same set of sources from CVS that I used, checkout using
450the wxPy-2-1-4 tag.
451
452Now back to what's new...
453
454Much more support for event-less callbacks and add-on modules.
455
456Created add-on module with wxOGL classes.
457
458Added wxWindow.GetChildren(). Be careful of this. It returns a *copy*
459of the list of the window's children. While you are using the list if
460anything changes in the real list (a child is deleted, etc.) then the
461list you are holding will suddenly have window references to garbage
462memory and your app will likely crash. But if you are careful it works
463great!
464
465Added a bunch of new and missing methods to wxTreeCrtl. The
466SortChildren method is now supported, but currently only for the
467default sort order.
468
469Added typemaps for wxSize, wxPoint, wxRealPoint, and wxRect that allow
470either the actual objects or Python sequence values to be used. For
471example, the following are equivallent:
472
473 win = wxWindow(parent, size = wxSize(100, 100))
474 win = wxWindow(parent, size = (100, 100))
475
476Super-charged the wxHtml module. You can now create your own tag
477handlers and also have access to the parser and cell classes. There
478is a tag handler in the library at wxPython.lib.wxpTag that
479understands the WXP tag and is able to place wxPython windows on HTML
480pages. See the demo for an example.
481
482A bunch of the methods of wxMenuBar were previously ifdef'd out for
483wxGTK. Added them back in since the methods exist now.
484
485Wrapped the wxHtmlHelpController and related classes.
486
487Wrapped the C++ versions of wxSizer and friends. The Python-only
488versions are still in the library, but depreciated. (You will get a
489warning message if you try to use them, but the warning can be
490disabled.) The usage of the C++ versions is slightly different, and
491the functionality of wxBorderSizer is now part of wxBoxSizer. I have
492added a few methods to wxSizer to try and make the transition as
493smooth as possible, I combined all Add methods into a single method
494that handles all cases, added an AddMany method, etc. One step I did
495not take was to make the default value of flag in the Add method be
496wxGROW. This would have made it more backward compatible, but less
497portable to and from wxWin C++ code. Please see the docs and demo for
498further details.
499
500Added wxPyEvent and wxPyCommandEvent classes, derived from wxEvent and
501wxCommandEvent. Each of them has SetPyData and GetPyData methods that
502accept or return a single Python object. You can use these classes
503directly or derive from them to create your own types of event objects
504that can pass through the wxWindows event system without loosing their
505Python parts (as long as they are stored with SetPyData.) Stay tuned
506for more info and examples in future releases.
507
508Added wxPython.lib.grids as an example of how to derive a new sizer
509from the C++ sizers. In this module you will find wxGridSizer and
510wxFlexGridSizer. wxGridSizer arrainges its items in a grid in which
511all the widths and heights are the same. wxFlexgridSizer allows
512different widths and heights, and you can also specify rows and/or
513columns that are growable. See the demo for a couple examples for how
514to use them.
515
516Added the wxValidator class, and created a class named wxPyValidator
517that should be used for the base class of any Python validators. See
518the demo for an example. Please note that you MUST implement a Clone
519method in your validator classes because of the way some things work
520in the underlying C++ library. I did not add wxTextValidator because
521of some issues of how it transfers data to and from a wxString, which
522in wxPython is automatically translated to and from Python strings, so
523there would never be a concrete wxString that would hang around long
524enough for the validator to do its job. On the other hand, it should
525be real easy to duplicate the functionality of wxTextValidator in a
526pure Python class derived from wxPyValidator.
527
528I've finally added a feature that has been on my list for close to two
529years! Ever wondered what that zero is for when you create your app
530object? Well now you can leave it out or explicitly set it to a true
531value. This value now controls what is to be done with sys.stdout and
532sys.stderr. A false value leaves them alone, and a true value sets
533them to an instance of wxPyOnDemandOutputWindow. (On windows the
534default is true, on unix platforms the default is false.) This class
535creates a frame containing a wxTextCtrl as soon as anything is written
536to sys.stdout or sys.stderr. If you close the window it will come
537back again the next time something is written. (You can call
538app.RestoreStdio to turn this off.) If you would rather that the stdio be
539redirected to a file, you can provide a second parameter to your app
540object's constructor that is a filename. If you want to use your own
541class instead of wxPyOnDemandOutputWindow you can either implement
542RedirectStdio() in you app class or change the value of
543wxApp.outputWindowClass like this:
544
545 class MyApp(wxApp):
546 outputWindowClass = MyClass
547
548 def OnInit(self):
549 frame = MyFrame()
550 self.SetTopWindow(frame)
551 return true
552
553Please see the implementation of wxPyOnDemandOutputWindow and wxApp in
554wx.py for more details. A few words of caution: if you are running
555your app in a debugger, changing sys.stdout and sys.stderr is likely
556to really screw things up.
557
558Added wxCaret. Unfortunately it's author has still not documented it
559in the wxWindows docs...
560
561Some new 3rd party contributions in wxPython.lib. PyShell, in
562shell.py is an interesting implementaion of an interactive Python
563shell in wxWindows. floatbar.py has a class derived from wxToolBar
564that can sense mouse drags and then reparent itself into another
565frame. Moving the new frame close to where it came from puts the tool
566bar back into the original parent. (Unfortunately there is currently
567a bug in wxGTK's wxFrame.SetToolBar so the FloatBar has some
568problems...)

572
573What's new in 2.1b3
574--------------------
575
576This release is syncronized with release 2.1 snapshot 9 of wxWindows.
577
578Switched to using SWIG from CVS (see http://swig.cs.uchicago.edu/cvs.html)
579for some of the new features and such. Also they have encorporated my
580patches so there is really no reason to stick with the current (very
581old) release... This version of SWIG gives the following new
582features:
583
584 1. Keyword arguments. You no longer have to specify all the
585 parameters with defaults to a method just to specify a
586 non-default value on the end. You can now do this instead:
587
588 win = wxWindow(parent, -1, style = mystyle)
589
590 2. There is now an an equivalence between Python's None and C++'s
591 NULL. This means that any methods that might return NULL will
592 now return None and you can use none where wxWindows might be
593 expecting NULL. This makes things much more snake-ish.
594
595
596There is a new build system based on a new Python program instead of
597raw makefiles. Now wxPython builds are virtually the same on MSW or
598Unix systems. See the end of this file for new build instructions and
599see distrib/build.py for more details.
600
601wxDC.Bilt now includes the useMask parameter, and has been split into
602two different versions. wxDC.BlitXY is like what was there before and
603takes raw coordinants and sizes, and the new wxDC.Blit is for the new
604interface using wxPoints and a wxSize.
605
606
607
608
609
610What's new in 2.1b2
611--------------------
612
613Added the missing wxWindow.GetUpdateRegion() method.
614
615Made a new change in SWIG (update your patches everybody) that
616provides a fix for global shadow objects that get an exception in
617their __del__ when their extension module has already been deleted.
618It was only a 1 line change in .../SWIG/Modules/pycpp.cxx at about
619line 496 if you want to do it by hand.
620
621It is now possible to run through MainLoop more than once in any one
622process. The cleanup that used to happen as MainLoop completed (and
623prevented it from running again) has been delayed until the wxc module
624is being unloaded by Python.
625
626I fixed a bunch of stuff in the C++ version of wxGrid so it wouldn't
627make wxPython look bad.
628
629wxWindow.PopupMenu() now takes a wxPoint instead of x,y. Added
630wxWindow.PopupMenuXY to be consistent with some other methods.
631
632Added wxGrid.SetEditInPlace and wxGrid.GetEditInPlace.
633
634You can now provide your own app.MainLoop method. See
635wxPython/demo/demoMainLoop.py for an example and some explaination.
636
637Got the in-place-edit for the wxTreeCtrl fixed and added some demo
638code to show how to use it.
639
640Put the wxIcon constructor back in for GTK as it now has one that
641matches MSW's.
642
643Added wxGrid.GetCells
644
645Added wxSystemSettings static methods as functions with names like
646wxSystemSettings_GetSystemColour.
647
648Removed wxPyMenu since using menu callbacks have been depreciated in
649wxWindows. Use wxMenu and events instead.
650
651Added alternate wxBitmap constructor (for MSW only) as
652 wxBitmapFromData(data, type, width, height, depth = 1)
653
654Added a helper function named wxPyTypeCast that can convert shadow
655objects of one type into shadow objects of another type. (Like doing
656a down-cast.) See the implementation in wx.py for some docs.
657
658Fixed wxImage GetData and SetData to properly use String objects for
659data transfer.
660
661Added access methods to wxGridEvent.
662
663New Makefile/Setup files supporting multiple dynamic extension modules
664for unix systems.
665
666Fixes for the wxGLCanvas demo to work around a strange bug in gtk.
667
668SWIG support routines now compiled separately instead of being bundled
669in wx.cpp.
670
671
672
673
674
675What's new in 2.1b1
676--------------------
677Fixed wxComboBox.SetSelection so that it actually sets the selected
678item. (Actually just removed it from wxPython and let it default to
679wxChoice.SetSelection which was already doing the right thing.)
680
681Added the Printing Framework.
682
683Switched back to using the wxWindows DLL for the pre-built Win32
684version. The problem was needing to reinitialize static class info
685data after loading each extension module.
686
687Lots of little tweaks and additions to reflect changes to various
688wxWindows classes.
689
690Fixed a bug with attaching objects to tree items. Actually was a
691symptom of a larger problem with not obtaining the interpreter lock
692when doing any Py_DECREFs.
693
694wxSizer and friends. Sizers are layout tools that manage a colection
695of windows and sizers. Different types of sizers apply different
696types of layout algorithms. You saw it here first! These classes are
697not even in the wxWindows C++ library yet!
698
699
700
701What's new in 2.0b9
702-------------------
703Bug fix for ListCtrl in test4.py (Was a missing file... DSM!)
704
705Bug fix for occassional GPF on Win32 systems upon termination of a
706wxPython application.
707
708Added wxListBox.GetSelections returning selections as a Tuple.
709
710Added a wxTreeItemData that is able to hold any Python object and be
711associated with items in a wxTreeCtrl. Added test pytree.py to show
712this feature off.
713
714Added wxSafeYield function.
715
716OpenGL Canvas can be optionally compiled in to wxPython.
717
718Awesome new Demo Framework for showing off wxPython and for learning
719how it all works.
720
721The pre-built Win32 version is no longer distributing the wxWindows
722DLL. It is statically linked with the wxWindows library instead.
723
724Added a couple missing items from the docs.
725
726Added wxImage, wxImageHandler, wxPNGHandler, wxJPEGHandler,
727wxGIFHandler and wxBMPHandler.
728
729Added new methods to wxTextCtrl.
730
731Fixed some problems with how SWIG was wrapping some wxTreeCtrl
732methods.
733
734
735
736What's new in 2.0b8
737-------------------
738Support for using Python threads in wxPython apps.
739
740Several missing methods from various classes.
741
742Various bug fixes.
743
744
745
746What's new in 2.0b7
747-------------------
748Added DLG_PNT and DLG_SZE convienience methods to wxWindow class.
749
750Added missing constructor and other methods for wxMenuItem.
751
752
753
754What's new in 2.0b6
755-------------------
756Just a quickie update to fix the self-installer to be compatible with
757Python 1.5.2b2's Registry settings.
758
759
760What's new in 2.0b5
761-------------------
762Well obviously the numbering scheme has changed. I did this to
763reflect the fact that this truly is the second major revision of
764wxPython, (well the third actually if you count the one I did for
765wxWindows 1.68 and then threw away...) and also that it is associated
766with the 2.0 version of wxWindows.
767
768I have finally started documenting wxPython. There are several pages
769in the wxWindows documentation tree specifically about wxPython, and I
770have added notes within the class references about where and how wxPython
771diverges from wxWindows.
772
773Added wxWindow_FromHWND(hWnd) for wxMSW to construct a wxWindow from a
774window handle. If you can get the window handle into the python code,
775it should just work... More news on this later.
776
777Added wxImageList, wxToolTip.
778
779Re-enabled wxConfig.DeleteAll() since it is reportedly fixed for the
780wxRegConfig class.
781
782As usual, some bug fixes, tweaks, etc.
783
784
785
786What's new in 0.5.3
787-------------------
788Added wxSashWindow, wxSashEvent, wxLayoutAlgorithm, etc.
789
790Various cleanup, tweaks, minor additions, etc. to maintain
791compatibility with the current wxWindows.
792
793
794
795What's new in 0.5.0
796-------------------
797Changed the import semantics from "from wxPython import *" to "from
798wxPython.wx import *" This is for people who are worried about
799namespace pollution, they can use "from wxPython import wx" and then
800prefix all the wxPython identifiers with "wx."
801
802Added wxTaskbarIcon for wxMSW.
803
804Made the events work for wxGrid.
805
806Added wxConfig.
807
808Added wxMiniFrame for wxGTK.
809
810Changed many of the args and return values that were pointers to gdi
811objects to references to reflect changes in the wxWindows API.
812
813Other assorted fixes and additions.
814
815
816
817
818What's new in 0.4.2
819-------------------
820
821wxPython on wxGTK works!!! Both dynamic and static on Linux and
822static on Solaris have been tested. Many thanks go to Harm
823<H.v.d.Heijden@phys.tue.nl> for his astute detective work on tracking
824down a nasty DECREF bug. Okay so I have to confess that it was just a
825DSM (Dumb Stupid Mistake) on my part but it was nasty none the less
826because the behavior was so different on different platforms.
827
828The dynamicly loaded module on Solaris is still segfaulting, so it
829must have been a different issue all along...
830
831
832
833What's New in 0.4
834-----------------
835
8361. Worked on wxGTK compatibility. It is partially working. On a
837Solaris/Sparc box wxPython is working but only when it is statically
838linked with the Python interpreter. When built as a dyamically loaded
839extension module, things start acting weirdly and it soon seg-faults.
840And on Linux both the statically linked and the dynamically linked
841version segfault shortly after starting up.
842
8432. Added Toolbar, StatusBar and SplitterWindow classes.
844
8453. Varioius bug fixes, enhancements, etc.
846
847----------------------------------------------------------------------
