10and a demo to show them in action.
11
fea018f8
RD
12Deprecated PyShell and PyShellWindow, added a snapshot of PyCrust (see
13http://sourceforge.net/projects/pycrust/. )
4f3449b4 14
c7e7022c 15Added the new virtual list capabilities to wxListCtrl.
4f3449b4 16
00b6c4e3 17Added a wxSTC style editor from Riaan Booysen to the sample apps.
4f3449b4 18
09f3d4e6
RD
19Added XRCed to the wxPython Tools directory, contributed by Roman
20Rolinsky.
21
22Added a new "constructor" to most of the window classes that calls the
6d19860f 23default C++ contructor, (the one with no parameters) and also added the
09f3d4e6
RD
24coresponding Create(...) method. This allows you to do a 2-step
25creation of windows which is sometimes required for doing things such
26as setting extended style flags before the window is created, or for
27passing the object to the XRC resource system to be created from the
28resource. The name of the new "constructor" is the original name of
29the class with a "Pre" in it. For example, wxPreWindow, wxPreFrame,
30etc.
31
65ec6247
RD
32Updated to version 1.39 of Scintilla and updated wxStyledTextCtrl
33accordingly.
4f3449b4 34
6d19860f
RD
35Updated wxColumnSorterMixin to also be able to place sort icons on the
36column headers, and updated the wxListCtrl demo to show it off by
37using wxColumnSorterMixin.
38
53fe40ba 39Added wxGenBitmapTextButton, TablePrint, etc. contribs from Lorne White.
ddcb3d83 40
6d8b4f8d 41Added wxNativeFontInfo and wxFontMapper.

50
286e2db6 512.3.1
bf7945ce
RD
52-----
53Added EVT_GRID_EDITOR_CREATED and wxGridEditorCreatedEvent so the user
54code can get access to the edit control when it is created, (to push
55on a custom event handler for example.)
56
d56cebe7
RD
57Added wxTextAttr class and SetStyle, SetDefaultStyle and
58GetDefaultStyle methods to wxTextCtrl.
59
60Added ability to use xml resource files. Still need to add ability to
61subclass wxXmlResourceHandler, etc...
62
63Added wxGridAutoEditMixin to the mixins library package.
64
65Made ColourSelect be derived from wxButton.
66
286e2db6
RD
67Fixed img2py to work correctly with Python 2.1.
68
69Added enhanced wxVTKRenderWindow by Prabhu Ramachandran
70
bf7945ce 71
9416aa89
RD
72
732.3.0
19cf4f80
RD
74-----
75Removed initial startup dependency on the OpenGL DLLs so only the
9416aa89 76glcanvasc.pyd depends on them, (on wxMSW.)
19cf4f80
RD
77
78Changed wxFont, wxPen, wxBrush to not implicitly use the
9416aa89
RD
79wxThe[Font|Pen|Brush]List objects behind the scenes, but to use normal
80ctor and dtors.
19cf4f80
RD
81
82Exposed the wxThe[Font|Pen|Brush]List to wxPython.
83
1af9e5c5 84Also added wxTheColourDatabase and added a library module (in the
19cf4f80
RD
85wxPython.lib.colourdb module) to load LOTS more colour names into the
86colour database.
87
6e18ca6c
RD
88Added wxWakeUpMainThread, wxMutexGuiEnter, wxMutexGuiLeave,
89wxMutexGuiLocker and wxThread_IsMain to assist with dealing with GUI
90access from non-GUI threads.
91
1af9e5c5
RD
92wxPyOnDemandOutputWindow is now (more) thread safe if non-GUI threads
93use print, sys.stdout.write, etc.
6e18ca6c 94
6bb38ab6
RD
95Added CreateTextSizer and CreateButtonSizer to wxDialog
96
6bb38ab6
RD
97Added wxPython/lib/infoframe.py from Chris Fama. It contains a class
98that can be used in place of wxPyOnDemandOutputWindow.
99
49875c53
RD
100Added colourselect.py, imagebrowser.py and an updated calendar.py to
101wxPython/lib from Lorne White.
102
e0672e2f
RD
103Added patch to wxPoint_LIST_helper from Tim Hochberg that should make
104it gobs faster in certain situations.
6bb38ab6 105
1af9e5c5
RD
106Added tools that will take an image file in a wx supported format and
107convert it to data embedded in a Python source file. The image is
9416aa89
RD
108converted to XPM format which is essentially a list of strings
109containing info about each pixel. The image's transparency mask is
110included, if there is one, or a mask can be added if a mask colour is
111specified on the command line. It is then pickled and optionally
112compressed and written to a Python source file along with functions to
113convert it to either a wxBitmap or a wxImage. See
114wxPython/demo/images.py for examples, and wxPython/Tools/img2py.py for
115the implementation.
1af9e5c5
RD
116
117Fixed wxStyledTextCtrl to be much faster on wxGTK. There was some
118experimental code that got left in place that ended up causing way too
119many refreshes.
120
d1679124
RD
121A couple more hacks in my_distutils.py so wxPython can be built with
122the distutils that comes with Python 2.1.
1af9e5c5 123
d7ec6564 124Added a ton of missing methods for wxPrintData.
1af9e5c5 125
d7ec6564 126Switched to InnoSetup for MSW distributions.
19cf4f80 127
3b36695d
RD
128Added wxToggleButton.
129
130Fixed bug that prevented wxTreeCtrl.OnCompareItems from being called.
d1679124 131
9416aa89
RD
132Added some methods to wxGrid:
133 GetCellHighlightPenWidth
134 GetCellHighlightROPenWidth
135 SetCellHighlightPenWidth
136 SetCellHighlightROPenWidth
137 GetGridWindow
138 GetGridRowLabelWindow
139 GetGridColLabelWindow
140 GetGridCornerLabelWindow
141
142Added wxGetClientDisplayRect which on wxMSW returns a wxRect
143representing the area on screen not occupied by the taskbar and such.
144On other platforms it is equivallent to wxGetDisplaySize.
145
146
147***---***---***---***---***---***---***---***---***---***---***---
148 Implemented the first phase of OOR (Original Object Return). See
149 the text in the demo for more details of what this means, but in a
150 nutshell methods such as wxWindow.GetParent or FindWindowById will
151 now return a shadow object of the proper type if it can. By
152 "proper type" I mean that if the wxWindow pointer returned from
153 FindWindowById really points to a wxButton then the Python object
154 constructed will be of a wxButtonPtr class instead of wxWindowPtr
155 as before. This should reduce or eliminiate the need for
156 wxPyTypeCast. (Woo Hoo!) The objects returned are still not the
157 original Python object, but that is the next step. (Although it
158 will probably only work on Python 2.1 and beyond because it will
159 use weak references.)
160
161 This first phase of the OOR plan is fairly significant and has
162 required a lot of changes all over wxPython, most of which should
163 be transparent to you, however I'm not 100% sure that it didn't
164 introduce any new bugs that are hiding somewhere and didn't get
165 stomped on during my testing. So please be sure to test everything
166 thoroughly when you install this version and be sure to report any
167 object-type related oddities to me.
168***---***---***---***---***---***---***---***---***---***---***---
169
170There is now a wxObject class that most other classes derive from like
171in C++, but the methods provided don't really match but are wxPython
bf7945ce
RD
172specific. It could have been added long ago but OOR required it so it
173finally got done.
9416aa89
RD
174
175Finally added wxPyLineShape.GetLineControlPoints, which has been on my
176list for a while. The above OOR modification made this easier.
d1679124 177
10e07c70 178Fixed the __cmp__ methods for wxPoint and others.
419c299a 179
493f1553
RD
180Added wxWave.
181
30aaddfe
RD
182Added the wxPython.lib.mixins package to the library, it is where
183useful mix-in classes can be placed. Currently there is one to help
bf7945ce
RD
184make the columns in a wxListCtrl sortable, and the MagicIMageList from
185Mike Fletcher. If you have any custom code that can be factored out
186of existing classes into a mix-in that would be useful to others
30aaddfe
RD
187please send it to me for inclusion in this package.
188
25832b3f
RD
189Added a few little sample applications to help newbies to get started
190by having smaller functional apps to play with. They can be found in
191wxPython/samples.

205-----
206
207New typemaps for wxString when compiling for Python 2.0 and beyond
208that allow Unicode objects to be passed as well as String objects. If
209a Unicode object is passed PyString_AsStringAndSize is used to convert
210it to a wxString using the default encoding.
211
212Fixed the generic buttons so tool tips work for them.
213
214Fixed a bug in the demo's tree control.
215
216Added a listbox to the listbox demo that shows how to find items with
1e7ecb7b 217a matching prefix as keys are typed.
185d7c3e
RD
218
219Added code to the wxListCtrl demo to show how to get text from a
220column in report mode.
221
222Added code to the toolbar demo to clear the long help from the status
223bar after 2 seconds.
224
225Added wxJoystick.
226
227Fixed wxTimer so it can be used as described in the docs, either with
228a Notify method in a subclass, or sending an event to a wxEvtHandler
229object, (usually a window.)
230
231Added wxNotifyEvent.Allow()
232
de20db99
RD
233Fixed GOBS of reference leaks.
234
1e7ecb7b
RD
235Massive code changes and cleanup to allow wxPython to be split into
236multiple extension modules again. A Python CObject is used to allow
1b62f00d
RD
237the "export" of SWIG functions and other common helper functions from
238the wxc module to other modules, even if they are in separate shared
1e7ecb7b
RD
239libraries. Should also be usable from 3rd party code, just include
240wxPython/src/export.h
241
242Changed the default setup so the following are built as separate
243extension modules: calendar, glcanvas, grid, html, ogl, stc, and
244utils. Will probably add more later.
245
1b62f00d
RD
246Changed the wxPrinterDC to use the new constructor taking a
247wxPrintData object. The old ctor is still there using the
248wxPrinterDC2 name.
249
250Added wxPython.lib.anchors.py from Riaan Booysen. It contains a class
251that implements Delphi's Anchors with wxLayoutConstraints.
252
253Added wxPython.lib.fancytext from Timothy Hochberg.
254
255Changed the GenericButtons to send their event in idle time, so the
256mouse won't be captured when the event handler is called.
257
258Added wxPython.lib.rpcMixin from Greg Landrum, although it's not
259integrated with the demo yet. It allows a wxPython GUI to be an
260XML-RPC server.

RD
264New in 2.2.2
265------------
266
267Significantly changed how the wxStyledtextCtrl code that wraps
268Scintilla is implemented. Most of it is now automatically generated
269from an interface definition file provided by Scintilla. This means
270that it will be much easier to stay in sync with new Scintilla
271releases, but also means that some of the method and identifier names
272have changed. See wxPython/demo/data/stc.h for a copy of the C++
273interface from which the Python interface is generated. There is now
274some inline documentation in that file that should really help explain
275how things work.
276
277I am now using the Python Distutils to build wxPython and to make some
278of the distribution files. (See http://www.python.org/sigs/distutils-sig/)
279This means no more messing with my kludgy build.py/Makefile hack,
280builds will be more consistent with other Python extensions that also
281use Distutils, and will hopefully make wxPython easier to build for
282platforms where there have been troubles before. If you are building
283wxPython for Python 1.5.2 or for 1.6, then you will need to get and
284install version 1.0 of Distutils from the website above. If you are
285using Python 2.0 then you already have it.
286
287Added wxInputStream and the wxFileSystem family of classes,
288contributed by Joerg Baumann.
289
290Added wxProcess and support for it to wxExecute. wxProcess lets you
291get notified when an asyncronous child process terminates, and also to
292get input/output streams for the child process's stdout, stderr and
293stdin.
294
295Removed the old python sizers.
296
297Added __add__, __sub__ and __cmp__ (equality check only) for wxPoint
298and wxRealPoint.
299
300Changed the build to make one big extension module instead of one for
301the core and each contrib. This allowed me to do away with the
302libwxPyHelpers.so on unix systems.
303
304Lots of little fixes here and there.
305
306Some hacks on wxGTK to try and make the AutoComplete listbox in the
307wxStyledTextCtrl to behave better. It's still not as nice as on
308wxMSW, but at least it's a bit more usable now.

BP
322New in 2.2.0
323------------
324
325Added wxLog and friends.
326
327Added wxFrame.ShowFullScreen for MSW.
328
329Added PyShellWindow to the wxPython.lib package.
330
331
332
333New in 2.1.16
334-------------
335
336Added an attribute named labelDelta to the generic buttons that
337specifies how far to offset the label when the button is in the
338depressed state.
339
340Added wxTipProvider and friends. See the demo for an example.
341
342wxGrid can now change the cell highlight colour.
343
344Added wxDragImage.
345
346Fixed printing on wxGTK.
347
348Added wxDateTime, wxTimeSpan, and wxDateSpan to wxPython.utils.
349
350Added wxCalendarCtrl.
351
352WARNING: A while back I asked what should be done about the Magic
353Method Names. (Methods that are automatically turned into event
354handlers by virtue of their name.) The consensus was that it is more
355confusing to have them than to try and expand them to have greater
356coverage. I am finally getting around to removing the code that
357generates the event binding. This means that if you are using any of
358the following method names without a EVT_* call that you need to
359modify your code to add the EVT_* to hook the event to the method.
360
361 OnChar
362 OnSize
363 OnEraseBackground
364 OnSysColourChanged
365 OnInitDialog
366 OnPaint
367 OnIdle
368 OnActivate
369 OnMenuHighlight
370 OnCloseWindow
371 OnScroll
372
373Added wxSpinCtrl.
374
375
376
377
378New in 2.1.15
164b735b
RD
379-------------
380
381Fixed wxTreeCtrl.HitTest to return both the tree item as well as the
382flags that clairify where the click was in relation to the item.
383
854862f5
RD
384Fixed thread state problem in wxTreeCtrl.GetBoundingBox and
385GetSelections.
164b735b 386
99ab9f3b
RD
387Fixed some problems in OGL. Also wxShape.SetClientData and
388.GetClientData can now deal with Python objects.
714d23b4 389
dcd38683 390Added wxListCtrl.SortItems and changed the demo to show how to use it.
714d23b4 391
f6bcfd97
BP
392Plugged a memory leak.
393
394Wrapped the new wxGrid and friends. The old wxGrid class is no longer
395available. There are some incompatibilities, and unfortunately the
396new classes are not documented yet, (however the methods are more
397consistent with each other now so you may be able to guess pretty
398good...)
399
400Updated filebrowsebutton.py and calendar.py with changes from their
401authors. There is now a FileBrowseButtonWithHistory class (what a
402mouthful!) and wxCalendar has printing support.
403
404Added ActiveXWrapper to the library, and some good demos of it too.
405It works great for embedding a COM (a.k.a OCX, a.k.a ActiveX) control
406in a window and calling its methods. It actually creates a new class
407on the fly that derives from wxWindow, the COM CoClass and others
408needed to make it all work. The resulting class can be instantiated
409just like wxWindow, used in sizers, etc. It also responds to all COM
410method calls, properties, etc., and if the class or a mix-in has
411matching method names, then the COM events will be propogated back to
412them.
413
414Created a typemap that allows a string to be used for parameters
415expecting a wxColour type. The string is either a colour name as
416defined in the wxColourDatabase, or a colour spec of the form
417"#RRGGBB". See the wxStyledTextCtrl demo for an example.
418
419I almost forgot to mention the wxStyledTextCtrl! Yes, the
420wxStyledTextCtrl is finally in wxPython!! (And the crowd goes
421wild...) There's no documentaTion yet (the crowd boos and hisses...)
422but I've included a very readable source file in the
423wxPython/demo/data directory, a couple fairly good examples, and you
424can also refer to the Scintilla documentaion at
425http://www.scintilla.org/ScintillaDoc.html to help fill in the gaps
426until the docs are done. (The croud murmers contentedly as the tool
427provider smiles convincingly and removes his flame-proof suit.)
428
164b735b
RD
429
430
431
9e57c2a0 432What's new in 2.1.13
6d75ea8f 433--------------------
9e57c2a0
RD
434Skipped a version number to match what has been released for wxGTK.
435
6d75ea8f
RD
436Updated wxMVCTree and added a demo for it, also fixed layout on GTK
437and some flicker problems.
438
439Added a wrapper class for the Visualization ToolKit (or VTK) in the
440wxPython.lib.vtk module. (http://www.kitware.com/)
441
442Fixed wxTreeCtrl.SetItemImage and GetItemImage to recognise the new
443"which" parameter.
444
445Added wxPython.lib.spashscreen from Mike Fletcher.
446
447Added wxPython.lib.filebrowsebutton also from Mike Fletcher.
448
449Renamed wxTreeCtrl.GetParent to GetItemParent to avoid a name clash
450with wxWindow.GetParent.
451
452Added wxIntersectRect to compute the intersection of two wxRect's.
453It is used like this:
454
455 intersect = wxIntersectRect(rect1, rect2)
456
457If r1 and r2 don't intersect then None is returned, otherwise the
458rectangle representing the intersection is returned.
459
460Some bug fixes for Clipboard and Drag-n-Drop.
461
9b3d3bc4 462Rotated text!!! WooHoo! (See wxDC.DrawRotatedText())
6999b0d8
RD
463
464Added a set of Generic Buttons to the library. These are simple
465window classes that look and act like native buttons, but you can have
466a bit more control over them. The bezel width can be set in addition
467to colours, fonts, etc. There is a ToggleButton as well as Bitmap
9e57c2a0
RD
468versions too. They should also serve as a good example of how to
469create your own classes derived from wxControl.
6d75ea8f 470
9b3d3bc4
RD
471The C++ wxToolBar classes have been redone, and so have the wxPython
472wrappers. There have been slight modifications to some of the methods
473but shouldn't impact anybody too much. I took the opportunity to add
474support for setting user data on each toolbar tool. The new AddTool
475methods look like this:
476
477 def AddTool(ID,
478 bitmap,
479 pushedBitmap = wxNullBitmap,
480 toggle = FALSE,
481 clientData = NULL,
482 shortHelpString = "",
483 longHelpString = "")
484
485 def AddSimpleTool(ID,
486 bitmap,
487 shortHelpString = "",
488 longHelpString = "",
489 toggle=FALSE)
490
491
492There are also coresponding InsertTool and InsertSimpleTool methods
493that additionally take an integer position as the first parameter.
494
9e57c2a0 495Added a wrapper for the new PCX and TIFF ImageHandlers.
9b3d3bc4
RD
496
497wxRect now simulates attributes named left, right, top and bottom.
498
d2103cf2
RD
499Removed all non wx stuff from the glcanvas module since DA's PyOpenGL
500is better and compatible with the wxGLCanvas. You can get it at
501http://starship.python.net:9673/crew/da/Code/PyOpenGL.
9b3d3bc4 502
3af4e610 503Added some missing EVT_ functions.
9b3d3bc4 504
1b55cabf

510More fixes for the wxFloatBar, and it now works on wxGTK even better
511than wxMSW! (The feat is accomplished by using the wxTB_DOCKABLE
512style flag instead of trying to float it ourselves.)

517What's new in 2.1.11
518--------------------
519Skipped a few version numbers so wxMSW, wxGTK and wxPython are all
520syncronized.
521
522wxImage.SetData now makes a copy of the image data before giving it to
523wxImage. I mistakenly thought that wxImage would copy the data
524itself.
525
526Fixed wxMSW's notebook so the pages get their size set as they are
527being added. This should remove the need for our
528wxNotebook.ResizeChildren hack.
529
530wxPanels now support AutoLayout, and wxNotebooks and wxSplitterWindows
531no longer tell their children to Layout() themselves. This will
532probably only effect you if you have a wxWindow with AutoLayout inside
533a notebook or splitter. If so, either change it to a wxPanel or add
534an EVT_SIZE handler that calls Layout().
535
536Fixed deadlock problem that happened when using threads.
537
538Added new HTML printing classes.
539
540Added wxWindow.GetHandle
541
542Apparently wxMouseEvent.Position has been depreciated in wxWindows as
543it is no longer available by default. You can use GetPositionTuple
544(returning a tuple with x,y) instead, or GetPosition (returning a
545wxPoint.)
546
547Added wxPostEvent function that allows events to be posted and then
548processed later. This is a thread-safe way to interact with the GUI
549thread from other threads.
550
551Added Clipboard and Drag-and-Drop classes.
552
553Added wxFontEnumerator.
554
555Many updates to wxMenu, wxMenuBar.
556
557wxPyEvent and wxPyCommandEvent derived classes now give you the actual
558Python object in the event handler instead of a new shadow.
559
560Added a Calendar widget from Lorne White to the library.
561
562Made some fixes to the wxFloatbar. It still has some troubles on
563wxGTK...
564
565Added an MVC tree control from Bryn Keller to the library.
566

569
570What's new in 2.1.5
571-------------------
572This is a quick bug-fix release to take care of a few nasties that
573crept in at the last minute before 2.1.4 was called done. No new
574major features.
575
576
577
578What's new in 2.1.4
579--------------------
580
581This release is NOT syncronized with a snapshot release of wxGTK or
582wxMSW. For MSW this isn't much of a problem since you can get the
583binaries from the web site. For other platforms you'll have to build
584wxGTK from CVS. (See http://web.ukonline.co.uk/julian.smart/wxwin/cvs.htm)
585To get the same set of sources from CVS that I used, checkout using
586the wxPy-2-1-4 tag.
587
588Now back to what's new...
589
590Much more support for event-less callbacks and add-on modules.
591
592Created add-on module with wxOGL classes.
593
594Added wxWindow.GetChildren(). Be careful of this. It returns a *copy*
595of the list of the window's children. While you are using the list if
596anything changes in the real list (a child is deleted, etc.) then the
597list you are holding will suddenly have window references to garbage
598memory and your app will likely crash. But if you are careful it works
599great!
600
601Added a bunch of new and missing methods to wxTreeCrtl. The
602SortChildren method is now supported, but currently only for the
603default sort order.
604
605Added typemaps for wxSize, wxPoint, wxRealPoint, and wxRect that allow
606either the actual objects or Python sequence values to be used. For
607example, the following are equivallent:
608
609 win = wxWindow(parent, size = wxSize(100, 100))
610 win = wxWindow(parent, size = (100, 100))
611
612Super-charged the wxHtml module. You can now create your own tag
613handlers and also have access to the parser and cell classes. There
614is a tag handler in the library at wxPython.lib.wxpTag that
615understands the WXP tag and is able to place wxPython windows on HTML
616pages. See the demo for an example.
617
618A bunch of the methods of wxMenuBar were previously ifdef'd out for
619wxGTK. Added them back in since the methods exist now.
620
621Wrapped the wxHtmlHelpController and related classes.
622
623Wrapped the C++ versions of wxSizer and friends. The Python-only
624versions are still in the library, but depreciated. (You will get a
625warning message if you try to use them, but the warning can be
626disabled.) The usage of the C++ versions is slightly different, and
627the functionality of wxBorderSizer is now part of wxBoxSizer. I have
628added a few methods to wxSizer to try and make the transition as
629smooth as possible, I combined all Add methods into a single method
630that handles all cases, added an AddMany method, etc. One step I did
631not take was to make the default value of flag in the Add method be
632wxGROW. This would have made it more backward compatible, but less
633portable to and from wxWin C++ code. Please see the docs and demo for
634further details.
635
636Added wxPyEvent and wxPyCommandEvent classes, derived from wxEvent and
637wxCommandEvent. Each of them has SetPyData and GetPyData methods that
638accept or return a single Python object. You can use these classes
639directly or derive from them to create your own types of event objects
640that can pass through the wxWindows event system without loosing their
641Python parts (as long as they are stored with SetPyData.) Stay tuned
642for more info and examples in future releases.
643
644Added wxPython.lib.grids as an example of how to derive a new sizer
645from the C++ sizers. In this module you will find wxGridSizer and
646wxFlexGridSizer. wxGridSizer arrainges its items in a grid in which
647all the widths and heights are the same. wxFlexgridSizer allows
648different widths and heights, and you can also specify rows and/or
649columns that are growable. See the demo for a couple examples for how
650to use them.
651
652Added the wxValidator class, and created a class named wxPyValidator
653that should be used for the base class of any Python validators. See
654the demo for an example. Please note that you MUST implement a Clone
655method in your validator classes because of the way some things work
656in the underlying C++ library. I did not add wxTextValidator because
657of some issues of how it transfers data to and from a wxString, which
658in wxPython is automatically translated to and from Python strings, so
659there would never be a concrete wxString that would hang around long
660enough for the validator to do its job. On the other hand, it should
661be real easy to duplicate the functionality of wxTextValidator in a
662pure Python class derived from wxPyValidator.
663
664I've finally added a feature that has been on my list for close to two
665years! Ever wondered what that zero is for when you create your app
666object? Well now you can leave it out or explicitly set it to a true
667value. This value now controls what is to be done with sys.stdout and
668sys.stderr. A false value leaves them alone, and a true value sets
669them to an instance of wxPyOnDemandOutputWindow. (On windows the
670default is true, on unix platforms the default is false.) This class
671creates a frame containing a wxTextCtrl as soon as anything is written
672to sys.stdout or sys.stderr. If you close the window it will come
673back again the next time something is written. (You can call
674app.RestoreStdio to turn this off.) If you would rather that the stdio be
675redirected to a file, you can provide a second parameter to your app
676object's constructor that is a filename. If you want to use your own
677class instead of wxPyOnDemandOutputWindow you can either implement
678RedirectStdio() in you app class or change the value of
679wxApp.outputWindowClass like this:
680
681 class MyApp(wxApp):
682 outputWindowClass = MyClass
683
684 def OnInit(self):
685 frame = MyFrame()
686 self.SetTopWindow(frame)
687 return true
688
689Please see the implementation of wxPyOnDemandOutputWindow and wxApp in
690wx.py for more details. A few words of caution: if you are running
691your app in a debugger, changing sys.stdout and sys.stderr is likely
692to really screw things up.
693
694Added wxCaret. Unfortunately it's author has still not documented it
695in the wxWindows docs...
696
697Some new 3rd party contributions in wxPython.lib. PyShell, in
698shell.py is an interesting implementaion of an interactive Python
699shell in wxWindows. floatbar.py has a class derived from wxToolBar
700that can sense mouse drags and then reparent itself into another
701frame. Moving the new frame close to where it came from puts the tool
702bar back into the original parent. (Unfortunately there is currently
703a bug in wxGTK's wxFrame.SetToolBar so the FloatBar has some
704problems...)
705
706
707
708
709What's new in 2.1b3
710--------------------
711
712This release is syncronized with release 2.1 snapshot 9 of wxWindows.
713
714Switched to using SWIG from CVS (see http://swig.cs.uchicago.edu/cvs.html)
715for some of the new features and such. Also they have encorporated my
716patches so there is really no reason to stick with the current (very
717old) release... This version of SWIG gives the following new
718features:
719
720 1. Keyword arguments. You no longer have to specify all the
721 parameters with defaults to a method just to specify a
722 non-default value on the end. You can now do this instead:
723
724 win = wxWindow(parent, -1, style = mystyle)
725
726 2. There is now an an equivalence between Python's None and C++'s
727 NULL. This means that any methods that might return NULL will
728 now return None and you can use none where wxWindows might be
729 expecting NULL. This makes things much more snake-ish.
730
731
732There is a new build system based on a new Python program instead of
733raw makefiles. Now wxPython builds are virtually the same on MSW or
734Unix systems. See the end of this file for new build instructions and
735see distrib/build.py for more details.
736
737wxDC.Bilt now includes the useMask parameter, and has been split into
738two different versions. wxDC.BlitXY is like what was there before and
739takes raw coordinants and sizes, and the new wxDC.Blit is for the new
740interface using wxPoints and a wxSize.
741
742
743
744
745
746What's new in 2.1b2
747--------------------
748
749Added the missing wxWindow.GetUpdateRegion() method.
750
751Made a new change in SWIG (update your patches everybody) that
752provides a fix for global shadow objects that get an exception in
753their __del__ when their extension module has already been deleted.
754It was only a 1 line change in .../SWIG/Modules/pycpp.cxx at about
755line 496 if you want to do it by hand.
756
757It is now possible to run through MainLoop more than once in any one
758process. The cleanup that used to happen as MainLoop completed (and
759prevented it from running again) has been delayed until the wxc module
760is being unloaded by Python.
761
762I fixed a bunch of stuff in the C++ version of wxGrid so it wouldn't
763make wxPython look bad.
764
765wxWindow.PopupMenu() now takes a wxPoint instead of x,y. Added
766wxWindow.PopupMenuXY to be consistent with some other methods.
767
768Added wxGrid.SetEditInPlace and wxGrid.GetEditInPlace.
769
770You can now provide your own app.MainLoop method. See
771wxPython/demo/demoMainLoop.py for an example and some explaination.
772
773Got the in-place-edit for the wxTreeCtrl fixed and added some demo
774code to show how to use it.
775
776Put the wxIcon constructor back in for GTK as it now has one that
777matches MSW's.
778
779Added wxGrid.GetCells
780
781Added wxSystemSettings static methods as functions with names like
782wxSystemSettings_GetSystemColour.
783
784Removed wxPyMenu since using menu callbacks have been depreciated in
785wxWindows. Use wxMenu and events instead.
786
787Added alternate wxBitmap constructor (for MSW only) as
788 wxBitmapFromData(data, type, width, height, depth = 1)
789
790Added a helper function named wxPyTypeCast that can convert shadow
791objects of one type into shadow objects of another type. (Like doing
792a down-cast.) See the implementation in wx.py for some docs.
793
794Fixed wxImage GetData and SetData to properly use String objects for
795data transfer.
796
797Added access methods to wxGridEvent.
798
799New Makefile/Setup files supporting multiple dynamic extension modules
800for unix systems.
801
802Fixes for the wxGLCanvas demo to work around a strange bug in gtk.
803
804SWIG support routines now compiled separately instead of being bundled
805in wx.cpp.
806
807
808
809
810
811What's new in 2.1b1
812--------------------
813Fixed wxComboBox.SetSelection so that it actually sets the selected
814item. (Actually just removed it from wxPython and let it default to
815wxChoice.SetSelection which was already doing the right thing.)
816
817Added the Printing Framework.
818
819Switched back to using the wxWindows DLL for the pre-built Win32
820version. The problem was needing to reinitialize static class info
821data after loading each extension module.
822
823Lots of little tweaks and additions to reflect changes to various
824wxWindows classes.
825
826Fixed a bug with attaching objects to tree items. Actually was a
827symptom of a larger problem with not obtaining the interpreter lock
828when doing any Py_DECREFs.
829
830wxSizer and friends. Sizers are layout tools that manage a colection
831of windows and sizers. Different types of sizers apply different
832types of layout algorithms. You saw it here first! These classes are
833not even in the wxWindows C++ library yet!
834
835
836
837What's new in 2.0b9
838-------------------
839Bug fix for ListCtrl in test4.py (Was a missing file... DSM!)
840
841Bug fix for occassional GPF on Win32 systems upon termination of a
842wxPython application.
843
844Added wxListBox.GetSelections returning selections as a Tuple.
845
846Added a wxTreeItemData that is able to hold any Python object and be
847associated with items in a wxTreeCtrl. Added test pytree.py to show
848this feature off.
849
850Added wxSafeYield function.
851
852OpenGL Canvas can be optionally compiled in to wxPython.
853
854Awesome new Demo Framework for showing off wxPython and for learning
855how it all works.
856
857The pre-built Win32 version is no longer distributing the wxWindows
858DLL. It is statically linked with the wxWindows library instead.
859
860Added a couple missing items from the docs.
861
862Added wxImage, wxImageHandler, wxPNGHandler, wxJPEGHandler,
863wxGIFHandler and wxBMPHandler.
864
865Added new methods to wxTextCtrl.
866
867Fixed some problems with how SWIG was wrapping some wxTreeCtrl
868methods.
869
870
871
872What's new in 2.0b8
873-------------------
874Support for using Python threads in wxPython apps.
875
876Several missing methods from various classes.
877
878Various bug fixes.
879
880
881
882What's new in 2.0b7
883-------------------
884Added DLG_PNT and DLG_SZE convienience methods to wxWindow class.
885
886Added missing constructor and other methods for wxMenuItem.
887
888
889
890What's new in 2.0b6
891-------------------
892Just a quickie update to fix the self-installer to be compatible with
893Python 1.5.2b2's Registry settings.
894
895
896What's new in 2.0b5
897-------------------
898Well obviously the numbering scheme has changed. I did this to
899reflect the fact that this truly is the second major revision of
900wxPython, (well the third actually if you count the one I did for
901wxWindows 1.68 and then threw away...) and also that it is associated
902with the 2.0 version of wxWindows.
903
904I have finally started documenting wxPython. There are several pages
905in the wxWindows documentation tree specifically about wxPython, and I
906have added notes within the class references about where and how wxPython
907diverges from wxWindows.
908
909Added wxWindow_FromHWND(hWnd) for wxMSW to construct a wxWindow from a
910window handle. If you can get the window handle into the python code,
911it should just work... More news on this later.
912
913Added wxImageList, wxToolTip.
914
915Re-enabled wxConfig.DeleteAll() since it is reportedly fixed for the
916wxRegConfig class.
917
918As usual, some bug fixes, tweaks, etc.
919
920
921
922What's new in 0.5.3
923-------------------
924Added wxSashWindow, wxSashEvent, wxLayoutAlgorithm, etc.
925
926Various cleanup, tweaks, minor additions, etc. to maintain
927compatibility with the current wxWindows.
928
929
930
931What's new in 0.5.0
932-------------------
933Changed the import semantics from "from wxPython import *" to "from
934wxPython.wx import *" This is for people who are worried about
935namespace pollution, they can use "from wxPython import wx" and then
936prefix all the wxPython identifiers with "wx."
937
938Added wxTaskbarIcon for wxMSW.
939
940Made the events work for wxGrid.
941
942Added wxConfig.
943
944Added wxMiniFrame for wxGTK.
945
946Changed many of the args and return values that were pointers to gdi
947objects to references to reflect changes in the wxWindows API.
948
949Other assorted fixes and additions.
950
951
952
953
954What's new in 0.4.2
955-------------------
956
957wxPython on wxGTK works!!! Both dynamic and static on Linux and
958static on Solaris have been tested. Many thanks go to Harm
959<H.v.d.Heijden@phys.tue.nl> for his astute detective work on tracking
960down a nasty DECREF bug. Okay so I have to confess that it was just a
961DSM (Dumb Stupid Mistake) on my part but it was nasty none the less
962because the behavior was so different on different platforms.
963
964The dynamicly loaded module on Solaris is still segfaulting, so it
965must have been a different issue all along...
966
967
968
969What's New in 0.4
970-----------------
971
9721. Worked on wxGTK compatibility. It is partially working. On a
973Solaris/Sparc box wxPython is working but only when it is statically
974linked with the Python interpreter. When built as a dyamically loaded
975extension module, things start acting weirdly and it soon seg-faults.
976And on Linux both the statically linked and the dynamically linked
977version segfault shortly after starting up.
978
9792. Added Toolbar, StatusBar and SplitterWindow classes.
980
9813. Varioius bug fixes, enhancements, etc.
982
983----------------------------------------------------------------------
