  38 .I bmp2tiff
  39 converts a Microsoft Windows Device Independent Bitmap image file to
  40 .SM TIFF.
  41 If several input BMP files are being specified the multipage
  42 .SM TIFF
  43 output file will be created. By default, the
  44 .SM TIFF
  45 image is created with data samples packed (\c
  46 .IR PlanarConfiguration =1),
  47 compressed with the PackBits algorithm (\c
  48 .IR Compression = 32773),
  49 and with each strip no more than 8 kilobytes.
  50 These characteristics can overridden, or explicitly specified
  51 with the options described below.
