d1a6f01e 3These notes intend to help people working on the CVS versions of
2ab9a04f
AD
4Bison.
5
6* Requirements
7
8Only the sources are installed in the CVS repository (to ease the
1f65350a
PE
9maintenance, merges etc.), therefore you will have to get the latest
10stable versions of the maintainer tools we depend upon, including:
cd3684cf 11
1f65350a
PE
12- Automake
13- Autoconf
14- Flex
15- Gettext
cd3684cf 16- CVS Bison itself

17
18Only building the initial full source tree will be a bit painful,
19later, a plain `cvs update -P & make' should be sufficient.
20
21* First CVS checkout
22
23Obviously, if you are reading these notes, you did manage to check out
24Bison from CVS. For the records, you will find all the relevant
25information on:
26
27 http://savannah.gnu.org/cvs/?group_id=56
28
29The next step is asking the installation of all the missing files:
30
01c56de4 31 $ ./bootstrap
d1a6f01e
AD
32
33And there you are! Just
34
35 $ ./configure && make && make check
36
37At this point, there should be no difference between your local copy,
38and the CVS master copy:
39
40 $ cvs diff
41
42should output no difference, except maybe the date in po/*.po files.
43
44Enjoy!

46* Troubleshooting
47
48Unfortunately the current Gettext still does not include all the
49needed tools so that the bootstrapping always perform successfully.
50
1b17ce8e 51If you experience problems, I suggest the following:
976e6270 52

531. Do a regular CVS checkout
54
bd701811 552. Fetch a recent tarball in:
1f65350a 56 ftp://alpha.gnu.org/gnu/bison/
2ab9a04f
AD
57
583. Extract it
59
604. Override the content of your checkout with the content of this
976e6270 61 tarball, i.e.:
1f65350a 62 cp -r bison-1.875c/* bison-cvs
2ab9a04f
AD
63
645. Proceed on ./configure && make etc.
