3A list control presents lists in a number of formats: list view, report view,
4icon view and small icon view. In any case, elements are numbered from zero.
614391dc
VZ
5For all these modes, the items are stored in the control and must be added to
6it using \helpref{InsertItem}{wxlistctrlinsertitem} method.
7
8A special case of report view quite different from the other modes of the list
9control is a virtual control in which the items data (including text, images
10and attributes) is managed by the main program and is requested by the control
11itself only when needed which allows to have controls with millions of items
12without consuming much memory. To use virtual list control you must use
13\helpref{SetItemCount}{wxlistctrlsetitemcount} first and overload at least
14\helpref{OnGetItemText}{wxlistctrlongetitemtext} (and optionally
15\helpref{OnGetItemImage}{wxlistctrlongetitemimage} and
16\helpref{OnGetItemAttr}{wxlistctrlongetitemattr}) to return the information
17about the items when the control requests it.
18
19Using many of wxListCtrl features is shown in the
963863ad
VZ
20\helpref{corresponding sample}{samplelistctrl}.
21
22To intercept events from a list control, use the event table macros described
23in \helpref{wxListEvent}{wxlistevent}.

660\begin{twocollist}\itemsep=0pt
661\twocolitem{long m\_mask}{Indicates which fields are valid. See the list of valid mask flags below.}
