1Packaging hints for binary package distributors
2===============================================
3
4Although the source of the bison package comes as a single package,
5in distributions of binary packages the installed files should
6be split into two packages:
7
8 bison-runtime
9 Contents: Runtime libraries and programs.
10 Audience: Anyone who wants to run internationalized programs
11 that contain Bison-generated parsers.
12
13 bison
14 Contents: Tools and documentation for developers that use Bison.
15 Audience: Anyone who wants to develop programs that use parsers.
16 Dependencies: requires bison-runtime.
17
18The 'bison-runtime' binary package is much smaller than the 'bison'
19binary package. It should be included in any distribution that
30757c8c
PE
20contains localized programs that use the diagnostics contained in
21Bison-generated parsers.

23If you want to install both packages at the same time, you simply do
24at the toplevel directory:
25
26 ./configure
27 make
28 make install
29
30757c8c 30After installation, the file
0410a6e0
PE
31
32 $prefix/share/locale/*/LC_MESSAGES/bison-runtime.mo
33
30757c8c
PE
34belongs to the bison-runtime package; all other installed files belong
35to the bison package.
