1CHANGES.txt for wxPython
2
3----------------------------------------------------------------------
4
52.4.1.x
6-------
7
8Use wxSTC in the demo for displaying the soucre code of the samples.
9
10
11
12
13
142.4.1.2
15-------
16
17Added wxScrolledPanel from Will Sadkin
18
19Added SetShape method to top level windows (e.g. wxFrame.)
20
21Changed wxSWIG to not generate Python code using apply, (since it will
22be deprecated in the future) wxSWIG will use spam(*args, **kw) syntax
23instead. Also changed the generated __repr__ methods to be a bit more
24informative.
25
26Made the version number information more robust and uh, informative.
27Also added asserts to check that the major.minor versions of wxPython
28and wxWindows match.
29
30Added the new wx "renamer" package that will dynamically import from
31the wxPython package and rename wxFooBar --> FooBar. That means that
32people can do imports without "import *" and can use names like
33wx.Frame instead of wx.wxFrame. This is phase 1 of a full transition
34to the new namespace.
35
36Updated Scintilla to 1.52. I also changed it to use wxListCtrl
37instead of wxListBox for the AutoComplete window, added the ability to
38use custom bitmaps in the margin and in the AutoComplete windows, and
39worked out how to do proper clipping of child windows on wxGTK.
40
41Patrick O'Brien's PyCrust package has been renamed to Py and now
42includes several new tools. As part of the change the location of the
43pacakge has changed as well, it is now accessible as "from wxPython
44import py" (or "from wx import py" using the new namespace.) There
45are still some transition modules in the wxPython.lib.PyCrust package
46that will issue a warning and then import what is needed from the new
47package. These will be removed in a future release.
48
49Added __nonzero__ method to wxTreeItemId, wxBitmap, wxImage, wxFont,
50and most other classes that have an Ok or IsOK method. This allows
51code like "if obj: ..." to be the same as "if obj.IsOk(): ..."
52
53Toolbars on wxMac can now have controls on them.
54
55Added wxPython.lib.analogclock module based on samples that were
56passed back and forth on wxPython-users a while back.
57
58Added masked edit controls (wxPython.lib.maskededit) by Jeff Childers
59and Will Sadkin. Updated wxTimeCtrl to use MaskedEdit.
60
61When the __class__ of a dead object is replaced with _wxPyDeadObject
62the __del__ of the original class is now called first.
63
64Added wxTreeListCtrl. (Looks like a wxTreeCtrl embedded in a
65wxListCtrl, but actually is just giving multiple columns to a
66wxTreeCtrl.)
67
68Added wxFutureCall, a subclass of wxTimer that makes it easy to delay
69a call to any Python callable object.
70
71Added wxPy versions of wxPrintPreview, wxPreviewFrame, and
72wxPreviewControlBar so they can be derived from in Python and be able
73to override the C++ virtual methods.
74
75Simplified how the wxSizer methods are wrapped, changed the name of
76the "option" parameter to "proportion" to match the docs ("option" is
77still accepted for compatibility, but this will go away in a future
78release,) SetItemMinSize can now take a wxSize (or 2-tuple) parameter,
79and Spacers can be specified with a wxSize (or 2-tuple) parameter
80
81Added wxCursorFromBits.
82
83
84
85
86
872.4.0.7
88-------
89Gave up on generating a warning upon the use of the old true/false or
90TRUE/FALSE values.
91
92Fixed wxGenericTreeCtrl (used on wxGTK and wxMac for wxTreeCtrl) so
93that it can successfully handle lots of nodes instead of overflowing
94when the virtual height of the widget overflowed a 16-bit value.
95
96Fixed the typemap that converts strings to wxColours to also accept
97unicode.
98
99Fixed problem where the wrong class name could sometimes be used for
100OOR.
101
102Fixed an interpreter lock problem in the __eq__ and __ne__ methods in
103wxSize and etc.
104
105Updated PyCrust to version 0.9
106
107Instead of always logging C++ assertions, added wxPYAPP_ASSERT_LOG
108flag to turn it on. In most cases turning it into an exception (the
109default behavior) is enough. See below in the 2.3.4.1 notes for more
110details.
111
112
113
114
1152.4.0.6 (a.k.a. the I'm so stupid release)
116-------
117The new deprecation class for the old true/false symbols can now be
118returned from OnInit. And I promise to be sure I am testing what I
119think I am testing in the future...
120
121
122
1232.4.0.5 (a.k.a. the blame it on Kevin release)
124-------
125A few little but annoying bug fixes.
126
127Updated pycolourchooser.
128
129Updated to 0.9b of PyCrust.
130
131
132
1332.4.0.4
134-------
135Added missing wxRect methods
136
137Add OOR support for wxApp objects too.
138
139Added wxCursorFromImage, which works on wxMSW and wxGTK so far.
140
141All platforms now send EVT_DESTROY_WINDOW. Be warned that at the time
142the event is sent the window is in the process of being deconstructed,
143and so calling some (most?) methods of the window itself may cause
144problems.
145
146Fixed SF Bug #689481, a method in the OGL wrappers was using the wrong
147return type.
148
149Fixed SF Bug #689958, an endless loop in printout.py.
150
151Added EVT_WINDOW_CREATE_ID and EVT_WINDOW_DESTROY_ID so these events
152can be associated with a specific window ID and more easily caught by
153the parent window.
154
155Fixed copy-paste error in wxListCtrl.GetFirstSelected.
156
157Added missing Init method (and an overloading wrapper) to wxLocale
158wrapper.
159
160Added a wxBitmap.SetMaskColour convenience method.
161
162Changed how the dynamic event tables (used for all Python wx classes,
163C++ wx classes typically use static event tables) are searched such
164that they behave from a Python perspective more like the static tables
165in C++. Namely that if there are identical event bindings in a base
166Python class and a derived Python class that the one in the derived
167class will be found first and that if Skip is called that the one in
168the base class will still be found instead of skipping directly to the
169static stable in the C++ class.
170
171Switched to using True/False in the wxPython lib and demo instead of
172true/false or TRUE/FALSE to prepare for the new boolean type and
173constants being added to Python. Added code to wx.py to test for the
174existence of the new constants and to create suitable values if not
175present.
176
177Added some static wxApp functions that help with integration with the
178Mac UI. They are no-ops on other platforms so it doesn't hurt to
179always call them. The functions are:
180
181 wxApp_GetMacDefaultEncodingIsPC
182 wxApp_GetMacSupportPCMenuShortcuts
183 wxApp_GetMacAboutMenuItemId
184 wxApp_GetMacPreferencesMenuItemId
185 wxApp_GetMacExitMenuItemId
186 wxApp_GetMacHelpMenuTitleName
187 wxApp_SetMacDefaultEncodingIsPC
188 wxApp_SetMacSupportPCMenuShortcuts
189 wxApp_SetMacAboutMenuItemId
190 wxApp_SetMacPreferencesMenuItemId
191 wxApp_SetMacExitMenuItemId
192 wxApp_SetMacHelpMenuTitleName
193
194Refactored, enhanced and added capabilities for the DrawXXXList
195functions, inspired by code from Chris Barker.
196
197The wxWindows .mo language catalog files are now installed in a
198subdirectory of the wxPython package dir on MSW since that platform
199doesn't have a standard place for them.
200
201Added missing deselect methods for wxGrid.
202
203Fixed typemaps for wxGridCellCoordsArray.
204
205Updated to the 0.9a version of PyCrust
206
207
208
2092.4.0.2
210-------
211Several bug fixes.
212
213Added wxIntCtrl from Will Sadkin.
214
215Added wxPyColourChooser by Michael Gilfix.
216
217
218
219
2202.4.0.1
221-------
222No major new features since 2.3.4.2, mostly bug fixes and minor
223enhancements.
224
225Added function wrappers for the common dialogs from Kevin Altis. See
226wxPython/lib/dialogs.py for more details.
227
228
229
2302.3.4.2
231-------
232Various bug fixes.
233
234
235
2362.3.4.1
237-------
238Updated XRCed and wxTimeCtrl contribs.
239
240Show a couple new wxGrid features in the demo.
241
242Several bug fixes in wxWindows.
243
244Added wxHtmlFilter.
245
246wxASSERT and related C++ runtime diagnostics are now converted to
247Python exceptions. When an assert happens a wxPyAssertionError
248(which derives from AssertionError) exception is created and when
249control returns back to the Python code that invoked the C++ API it
250will be raised. The same exception restrictions are in place as
251before, namely that exceptions can't cross from one Python layer
252through C++ to another Python layer. That simply means that if you
253want to catch wxPyAssertionError or any other exception that you need
254to do it before control returns to C++ at the end of your event
255handler or callback code. There is some test code in demo/wxButton.py
256you can use to play with this new feature.
257
258Added some methods to wxApp (SetAssertMode and GetAssertMode) that let
259you control how C++ assertions are processed. Valid modes are:
260wxPYAPP_ASSERT_SUPPRESS, wxPYAPP_ASSERT_EXCEPTION, and
261wxPYAPP_ASSERT_DIALOG. Using _SUPPRESS will give you behavior like
262the old "final" builds and the assert will be ignored, _EXCEPTION is
263the new default described above, and _DIALOG is like the default in
2642.3.3.1 and prior "hybrid" builds. You can also combine _EXCEPTION
265and _DIALOG if you wish, although I don't know why you would.
266
267You can now overload OnInitGui, OnExit and OnAssert in your classes
268derived from wxApp.
269
270Added GetSelectedCells, GetSelectionBlockTopLeft,
271GetSelectionBlockBottomRight, GetSelectedRows, GetSelectedCols nethods
272to wxGrid.
273
274Added Python == and != operators for some basic classes
275
276Fixed the Python wrappers for wxInputStream so they no longer block
277when reading from a wxProcess on wxGTK. They now work more or less as
278they did before 2.3.3.1 but the dual meaning of eof() has been
279removed. There is now a CanRead() method that lets you know if there
280is data waiting to be read from the pipe.
281
282Fixed method name clash in wxIEHtmlWin, renamed Refresh to RefreshPage.
283
284Added Throbber from Cliff Wells to the library and the demo.
285
286Windows installer prompts to uninstall old version first.
287
288Added wxPython.lib.evtmgr by Robb Shecter, which is an easier, more
289"Pythonic" and more OO method of registering handlers for wxWindows
290events using the Publish/Subscribe pattern.
291
292Added wxPython.lib.popupctl by Gerrit van Dyk which is a combobox-like
293gizmo for poping up arbitrary controls. It is currently using
294wxDialog because of some issues with wxPopupWindow...
295
296Added wxPython.lib.gridmovers by Gerrit van Dyk which facilitates the
297dragging of columns and/or rows in a wxGrid.
298
299Added wxPython.lib.multisash by Gerrit van Dyk which is a nice
300implementation of allowing the user to split a window any number of
301times either horizontally or vertically, and to close the split off
302windows when desired.
303
304Added helpviewer tool that displays HTML books similarly to how MS
305HTMLHelp viewer does. Changed how the wxPythonDocs tarball is built
306and added a script to launch the doc viewer.
307
308
309
310
3112.3.3.1
312-------
313Added wxSplashScreen.
314
315Added wxGenericDirCtrl.
316
317Added wxMultiChoiceDialog.
318
319The calltip window and autocomplete window in wxSTC will now use a
320wxPopupWindow if available on the platform (and functioning correctly)
321so they can extend beyond the client area of the STC if needed.
322
323Finished wrapping and providing typemaps for wxInputStream and also
324added the stream ctor and other methods for wxImage so images can now
325be loaded from any Python "file-like" object.
326
327Changed the img2py tool to use PNG instead of XPM for embedding image
328data in Python source code, and the generated code now uses streams to
329convert the image data to wxImage, wxBitmap, or wxIcon.
330
331Added the wxPython.lib.rcsizer module which contains RowColSizer.
332This sizer is based on code from Niki Spahiev and lets you specify a
333row and column for each item, as well as optional column or row
334spanning. Cells with no item assigned to it are just left blank.
335Stretchable rows or columns are specified and work the same as in
336wxFlexGridSizer.
337
338Updated XRCed from Roman Rolinsky
339
340Added wxBufferedDC.
341
342Upgraded wxSTC from Scintilla 1.40 to Scintilla 1.45, and then again
343to version 1.47, and one more time to 1.48! <wink>
344
345UNICODE!
346 wxWindows/wxPython can be compiled with unicode support enabled or
347 disabled. Previous to wxPython 2.3.3 non-unicode mode was always
348 used. Starting with 2.3.3 either mode is supported, but only if
349 it is also available in wxWindows on the platform. Currently
350 wxWindows only supports unicode on MS Windows platforms, but with
351 the recent release of GTK+ 2.0 it is only a matter of time until
352 it can be done on wxGTK (Linux and other unixes) as well.
353
354 Unicode works best on platforms in the NT branch of the Windows
355 family tree (NT, win2k, XP) but it is now also possible to use the
356 same unicode binaries on win95/98/ME platforms as well! This is
357 done by using a special library and DLL with the application
358 called MSLU, (Microsoft Layer for Unicode). It simply gets out of
359 the way if the app is run on an NT box, otherwise if run on a
360 win9x box it loads a special DLL that provides the unicode
361 versions of the windows API. So far I have not been able to get
362 this to work perfectly on win9x. Most things work fine but
363 wxTaskBarIcon for example will cause a crash if used with the
364 unicode build on win95.
365
366 So how do you use it? It's very simple. When unicode is enabled,
367 then all functions and methods in wxPython that return a wxString
368 from the C++ function will return a Python unicode object, and
369 parameters to C++ functions/methods that expect a wxString can
370 accept either a Python string or unicode object. If a string
371 object is passed then it will be decoded into unicode using the
372 converter pointed to by wxConvCurrent, which will use the default
373 system encoding. If you need to use a string in some other
374 encoding then you should convert it to unicode using the Python
375 codecs first and then pass the unicode string to the wxPython
376 method.
377
378Added wxListCtrlAutoWidthMixin from Erik Westra.
379
380Added wxIconBundle and wxTopLevelWindow.SetIcons.
381
382Added wxLocale and wxEncodingConverter.
383
384A little black magic... When the C++ object (for a window or
385whatever) is deleted there is no way to force the Python shadow object
386to also be destroyed and clean up all references to it. This leads to
387crashes if the shadow object tries to call a method with the old C++
388pointer. The black magic I've done is to replace the __class__ in the
389Python instance object with a class that raises an exception whenever
390a method call (or other attribute access) is attempted. This works
391for any class that is OOR aware.
392
393Added OOR support for wxGridCellRenderer, wxGridCellEditor,
394wxGridCellAttr, wxGridCellAttrProvider, wxGridTableBase and their
395derived classes.
396
397Added wxImage.GetDataBuffer which returns an in-place edit buffer of
398the image data. (Patch #546009)
399
400Added a sample that shows how to embed wxPython in a wxWindows C++
401application.
402
403Added wxPyWindow, wxPyPanel and wxPyControl which are just like their
404wx counterparts except they allow some of the more common C++ virtual
405methods to be overridden in Python derived classes. The methods
406supported are:
407
408 DoMoveWindow
409 DoSetSize
410 DoSetClientSize
411 DoSetVirtualSize
412 DoGetSize
413 DoGetClientSize
414 DoGetPosition
415 DoGetVirtualSize
416 DoGetBestSize
417 InitDialog
418 TransferDataFromWindow
419 TransferDataToWindow
420 Validate
421 AcceptsFocus
422 AcceptsFocusFromKeyboard
423 GetMaxSize
424 AddChild
425 RemoveChild
426
427 If there are other methods that you think should be supported
428 please let me know.
429
430Changed wxGenButton to derive from wxPyControl and overload
431DoGetBestSize and AcceptsFocus.
432
433Added wxArtProvider.
434
435Added wxCallAfter which is a helper function that registers a function
436(or any callable Python object) to be called once the next time there
437are no pending events. This is useful for when you need to do
438something but it can't be done during the current event handler. The
439implementation is very simple, see wxPython/wx.py.
440
441Fixed a boatload of reference leaks.
442
443Added a demo of using a sizer in a wxScrolledWindow, in effect
444creating a ScrolledPanel.
445
446Added a sample to the demo that shows how to use radio menu items, and
447other menu stuff.
448
449Added wxIEHtmlWin. This is essentially the same as using IE with the
450ActiveXWrapper already in the library, but it is implemented all in
451C++ and therefore does not need any of the modules from win32all and
452so it is less fragile in the face of changes.
453
454Fixed the ActiveXWrapper problem. Looks like when the win32com
455modules make a "callback" that they (incorrectly, IMHO) allocate a
456transient thread state structure. Since wxPython is now saving
457tstates for it's own callbacks it ended up using garbage after
458win32com got rid of the temporary tstate...
459
460Added a generic static text control to wxPython.lib.stattext. This is
461so things like Boa and PythonCard can have a static text that can
462respond to mouse events and etc.
463
464Changed the wxDateTime.Parse* methods to return an int that will be -1
465on failure, and the index where parsing stopped otherwise.
466
467Moved tools to be a Python package in wxPython.tools, added scripts to
468import and launch each tool. This will let you import and use the
469tools in your own scripts or apps as needed. On Linux and OS X the
470tool scripts are installed to {prefix}/bin so you should be able to
471easily launch them from the command line. For example, PyCrust can be
472started with just the "pycrust" command.
473
474Added a sample to the demo that catches various key events and
475displays the details of the event.
476
477Added wxWizard, wxWizardPage, wxWizardPageSimple and wxPyWizardPage.
478
479Added wxXmlResourceHandler which allows you to create custom handlers
480for nonstandard class types in XRC resources. See the demo for an
481example.
482
483Added wxPython.lib.mixins.rubberband module from Robb Shecter.
484
485Added wxTimeCtrl from Will Sadkin.
486
487
488
489
4902.3.2.1
491-------
492Changed (again) how the Python global interpreter lock is handled as
493well as the Python thread state. This time it works on SMP machines
494without barfing and is also still compatible with Python debuggers.
495
496Added some patches from library contributors.
497
498
499
5002.3.2
501-----
502Added EVT_HELP, EVT_HELP_RANGE, EVT_DETAILED_HELP,
503EVT_DETAILED_HELP_RANGE, EVT_CONTEXT_MENU, wxHelpEvent,
504wxContextMenuEvent, wxContextHelp, wxContextHelpButton, wxTipWindow,
505and a demo to show them in action.
506
507Deprecated PyShell and PyShellWindow, added a snapshot of PyCrust (see
508http://sourceforge.net/projects/pycrust/. )
509
510Added the new virtual list capabilities to wxListCtrl.
511
512Added a wxSTC style editor from Riaan Booysen to the sample apps.
513
514Added XRCed to the wxPython Tools directory, contributed by Roman
515Rolinsky.
516
517Added a new "constructor" to most of the window classes that calls the
518default C++ constructor, (the one with no parameters) and also added the
519corresponding Create(...) method. This allows you to do a 2-step
520creation of windows which is sometimes required for doing things such
521as setting extended style flags before the window is created, or for
522passing the object to the XRC resource system to be created from the
523resource. The name of the new "constructor" is the original name of
524the class with a "Pre" in it. For example, wxPreWindow, wxPreFrame,
525etc.
526
527Updated to version 1.40 of Scintilla and updated wxStyledTextCtrl
528accordingly. While doing this update I dropped the wxLB_SORT style
529from the wxListBox created for the AutoComplete functionality. This
530means that you will have to sort the keyword lists yourself, but you
531are free to do case sensitive or case insensitive sorts and set the
532wxSTC flag accordingly.
533
534Updated wxColumnSorterMixin to also be able to place sort icons on the
535column headers, and updated the wxListCtrl demo to show it off by
536using wxColumnSorterMixin.
537
538Added wxGenBitmapTextButton, TablePrint, etc. contribs from Lorne White.
539
540Added wxNativeFontInfo and wxFontMapper.
541
542Added pySketch to the samples.
543
544Significantly changed how the Python interpreter lock and thread state
545are managed, which should fix the problem of running on a
546multi-processor machine.
547
548Added wxPyLog so log targets can be created in Python to handle log
549messages however is wished. See demo/Main.py for an example.
550
551Added wxFindReplaceDialog.
552
553The second phase of OOR is implemented for wxEvtHandler, wxSizer,
554wxShape and derived classes. This means that functions and methods
555that return an object derived from wxEvtHandler that was originally
556created in Python, will return the original Python object (if it still
557exists) instead of letting SWIG wrap a new shadow object around the
558original C++ pointer.
559
560Added some optimization methods to wxDC: GetBoundingBox, DrawLineList,
561DrawPointList.
562
563Added a set of sophisticated Error Dialogs from Chris Fama.
564
565Added wxRightTextCtrl from Josu Oyanguren to wxPython.lib for aligning
566text in a wxTextCtrl to the right side.
567
568Added wxURLDataObject and an example showing drag and drop of URLs to
569and from web browsers. It's still not 100% bullet-proof for all types
570of browsers, but it works for the majority of cases with the popular
571browsers on Windows. On wxGTK it seems that only Netscape 4.x works,
572if anybody has any suggestions about this please bring it up on the
573wx-dev list.
574
575Added wxStopWatch.
576
577Added wxMimeTypesManager and wxFileType.
578
579Passing None for the handler parameter to one of the EVT_** functions
580will now Disconnect the event.
581
582Added wxPopupWindow and wxPopupTransientWindow.
583
584Added wxFileHistory.
585
586Added wxDynamicSashWindow, which allows you to endlessly split windows
587by dragging a little tab next to the scrollbars. Added a demo to show
588this and also the ability of multiple wxStyledTextCtrls to share the
589same document.
590
591Added wxEditableListBox gizmo.
592
593Updated wxEditor with lots of enhancements from Steve Howell and Adam
594Feuer.
595
596Added the "SplitTree gizmos" which are a collection of classes that
597were designed to operate together and provide a tree control with
598additional columns for each item. The classes are
599wxRemotelyScrolledTreeCtrl, wxTreeCompanionWindow,
600wxThinSplitterWindow, and wxSplitterScrolledWindow, some of which may
601also be useful by themselves.
602
603Added wxDllWidget from Vaclav Slavik which allows wx widgets derived
604from wxWindow to be loaded from a C++ .dll (or .so) and be used in a
605wxPython program, without the widget having to be SWIGged first. The
606visible API of the widget is limited to wxWindow methods plus a
607SendCommand method, but it is still quite powerful. See
608wxPython/contrib/dllwidget and wxPython/demo/dllwidget for more
609details.
610
611
612
613
6142.3.1
615-----
616Added EVT_GRID_EDITOR_CREATED and wxGridEditorCreatedEvent so the user
617code can get access to the edit control when it is created, (to push
618on a custom event handler for example.)
619
620Added wxTextAttr class and SetStyle, SetDefaultStyle and
621GetDefaultStyle methods to wxTextCtrl.
622
623Added ability to use xml resource files. Still need to add ability to
624subclass wxXmlResourceHandler, etc...
625
626Added wxGridAutoEditMixin to the mixins library package.
627
628Made ColourSelect be derived from wxButton.
629
630Fixed img2py to work correctly with Python 2.1.
631
632Added enhanced wxVTKRenderWindow by Prabhu Ramachandran
633
634
635
6362.3.0
637-----
638Removed initial startup dependency on the OpenGL DLLs so only the
639glcanvasc.pyd depends on them, (on wxMSW.)
640
641Changed wxFont, wxPen, wxBrush to not implicitly use the
642wxThe[Font|Pen|Brush]List objects behind the scenes, but to use normal
643ctor and dtors.
644
645Exposed the wxThe[Font|Pen|Brush]List to wxPython.
646
647Also added wxTheColourDatabase and added a library module (in the
648wxPython.lib.colourdb module) to load LOTS more colour names into the
649colour database.
650
651Added wxWakeUpMainThread, wxMutexGuiEnter, wxMutexGuiLeave,
652wxMutexGuiLocker and wxThread_IsMain to assist with dealing with GUI
653access from non-GUI threads.
654
655wxPyOnDemandOutputWindow is now (more) thread safe if non-GUI threads
656use print, sys.stdout.write, etc.
657
658Added CreateTextSizer and CreateButtonSizer to wxDialog
659
660Added wxPython/lib/infoframe.py from Chris Fama. It contains a class
661that can be used in place of wxPyOnDemandOutputWindow.
662
663Added colourselect.py, imagebrowser.py and an updated calendar.py to
664wxPython/lib from Lorne White.
665
666Added patch to wxPoint_LIST_helper from Tim Hochberg that should make
667it gobs faster in certain situations.
668
669Added tools that will take an image file in a wx supported format and
670convert it to data embedded in a Python source file. The image is
671converted to XPM format which is essentially a list of strings
672containing info about each pixel. The image's transparency mask is
673included, if there is one, or a mask can be added if a mask colour is
674specified on the command line. It is then pickled and optionally
675compressed and written to a Python source file along with functions to
676convert it to either a wxBitmap or a wxImage. See
677wxPython/demo/images.py for examples, and wxPython/Tools/img2py.py for
678the implementation.
679
680Fixed wxStyledTextCtrl to be much faster on wxGTK. There was some
681experimental code that got left in place that ended up causing way too
682many refreshes.
683
684A couple more hacks in my_distutils.py so wxPython can be built with
685the distutils that comes with Python 2.1.
686
687Added a ton of missing methods for wxPrintData.
688
689Switched to InnoSetup for MSW distributions.
690
691Added wxToggleButton.
692
693Fixed bug that prevented wxTreeCtrl.OnCompareItems from being called.
694
695Added some methods to wxGrid:
696 GetCellHighlightPenWidth
697 GetCellHighlightROPenWidth
698 SetCellHighlightPenWidth
699 SetCellHighlightROPenWidth
700 GetGridWindow
701 GetGridRowLabelWindow
702 GetGridColLabelWindow
703 GetGridCornerLabelWindow
704
705Added wxGetClientDisplayRect which on wxMSW returns a wxRect
706representing the area on screen not occupied by the taskbar and such.
707On other platforms it is equivallent to wxGetDisplaySize.
708
709
710***---***---***---***---***---***---***---***---***---***---***---
711 Implemented the first phase of OOR (Original Object Return). See
712 the text in the demo for more details of what this means, but in a
713 nutshell methods such as wxWindow.GetParent or FindWindowById will
714 now return a shadow object of the proper type if it can. By
715 "proper type" I mean that if the wxWindow pointer returned from
716 FindWindowById really points to a wxButton then the Python object
717 constructed will be of a wxButtonPtr class instead of wxWindowPtr
718 as before. This should reduce or eliminiate the need for
719 wxPyTypeCast. (Woo Hoo!) The objects returned are still not the
720 original Python object, but that is the next step. (Although it
721 will probably only work on Python 2.1 and beyond because it will
722 use weak references.)
723
724 This first phase of the OOR plan is fairly significant and has
725 required a lot of changes all over wxPython, most of which should
726 be transparent to you, however I'm not 100% sure that it didn't
727 introduce any new bugs that are hiding somewhere and didn't get
728 stomped on during my testing. So please be sure to test everything
729 thoroughly when you install this version and be sure to report any
730 object-type related oddities to me.
731***---***---***---***---***---***---***---***---***---***---***---
732
733There is now a wxObject class that most other classes derive from like
734in C++, but the methods provided don't really match but are wxPython
735specific. It could have been added long ago but OOR required it so it
736finally got done.
737
738Finally added wxPyLineShape.GetLineControlPoints, which has been on my
739list for a while. The above OOR modification made this easier.
740
741Fixed the __cmp__ methods for wxPoint and others.
742
743Added wxWave.
744
745Added the wxPython.lib.mixins package to the library, it is where
746useful mix-in classes can be placed. Currently there is one to help
747make the columns in a wxListCtrl sortable, and the MagicIMageList from
748Mike Fletcher. If you have any custom code that can be factored out
749of existing classes into a mix-in that would be useful to others
750please send it to me for inclusion in this package.
751
752Added a few little sample applications to help newbies to get started
753by having smaller functional apps to play with. They can be found in
754wxPython/samples.
755
756
757
758
7592.2.6
760-----
761
762No changes happened in the Python wrappers for this release, only
763changes and fixes in the wxWindows library.
764
765
766
7672.2.5
768-----
769
770New typemaps for wxString when compiling for Python 2.0 and beyond
771that allow Unicode objects to be passed as well as String objects. If
772a Unicode object is passed PyString_AsStringAndSize is used to convert
773it to a wxString using the default encoding.
774
775Fixed the generic buttons so tool tips work for them.
776
777Fixed a bug in the demo's tree control.
778
779Added a listbox to the listbox demo that shows how to find items with
780a matching prefix as keys are typed.
781
782Added code to the wxListCtrl demo to show how to get text from a
783column in report mode.
784
785Added code to the toolbar demo to clear the long help from the status
786bar after 2 seconds.
787
788Added wxJoystick.
789
790Fixed wxTimer so it can be used as described in the docs, either with
791a Notify method in a subclass, or sending an event to a wxEvtHandler
792object, (usually a window.)
793
794Added wxNotifyEvent.Allow()
795
796Fixed GOBS of reference leaks.
797
798Massive code changes and cleanup to allow wxPython to be split into
799multiple extension modules again. A Python CObject is used to allow
800the "export" of SWIG functions and other common helper functions from
801the wxc module to other modules, even if they are in separate shared
802libraries. Should also be usable from 3rd party code, just include
803wxPython/src/export.h
804
805Changed the default setup so the following are built as separate
806extension modules: calendar, glcanvas, grid, html, ogl, stc, and
807utils. Will probably add more later.
808
809Changed the wxPrinterDC to use the new constructor taking a
810wxPrintData object. The old ctor is still there using the
811wxPrinterDC2 name.
812
813Added wxPython.lib.anchors.py from Riaan Booysen. It contains a class
814that implements Delphi's Anchors with wxLayoutConstraints.
815
816Added wxPython.lib.fancytext from Timothy Hochberg.
817
818Changed the GenericButtons to send their event in idle time, so the
819mouse won't be captured when the event handler is called.
820
821Added wxPython.lib.rpcMixin from Greg Landrum, although it's not
822integrated with the demo yet. It allows a wxPython GUI to be an
823XML-RPC server.
824
825
826
827New in 2.2.2
828------------
829
830Significantly changed how the wxStyledtextCtrl code that wraps
831Scintilla is implemented. Most of it is now automatically generated
832from an interface definition file provided by Scintilla. This means
833that it will be much easier to stay in sync with new Scintilla
834releases, but also means that some of the method and identifier names
835have changed. See wxPython/demo/data/stc.h for a copy of the C++
836interface from which the Python interface is generated. There is now
837some inline documentation in that file that should really help explain
838how things work.
839
840I am now using the Python Distutils to build wxPython and to make some
841of the distribution files. (See http://www.python.org/sigs/distutils-sig/)
842This means no more messing with my kludgy build.py/Makefile hack,
843builds will be more consistent with other Python extensions that also
844use Distutils, and will hopefully make wxPython easier to build for
845platforms where there have been troubles before. If you are building
846wxPython for Python 1.5.2 or for 1.6, then you will need to get and
847install version 1.0 of Distutils from the website above. If you are
848using Python 2.0 then you already have it.
849
850Added wxInputStream and the wxFileSystem family of classes,
851contributed by Joerg Baumann.
852
853Added wxProcess and support for it to wxExecute. wxProcess lets you
854get notified when an asyncronous child process terminates, and also to
855get input/output streams for the child process's stdout, stderr and
856stdin.
857
858Removed the old python sizers.
859
860Added __add__, __sub__ and __cmp__ (equality check only) for wxPoint
861and wxRealPoint.
862
863Changed the build to make one big extension module instead of one for
864the core and each contrib. This allowed me to do away with the
865libwxPyHelpers.so on unix systems.
866
867Lots of little fixes here and there.
868
869Some hacks on wxGTK to try and make the AutoComplete listbox in the
870wxStyledTextCtrl to behave better. It's still not as nice as on
871wxMSW, but at least it's a bit more usable now.
872
873
874
875
876New in 2.2.1
877------------
878
879Various tweaks, fixes, missing methods, etc.
880
881Added example use of wxTaskBarIcon to the demo.
882
883
884
885New in 2.2.0
886------------
887
888Added wxLog and friends.
889
890Added wxFrame.ShowFullScreen for MSW.
891
892Added PyShellWindow to the wxPython.lib package.
893
894
895
896New in 2.1.16
897-------------
898
899Added an attribute named labelDelta to the generic buttons that
900specifies how far to offset the label when the button is in the
901depressed state.
902
903Added wxTipProvider and friends. See the demo for an example.
904
905wxGrid can now change the cell highlight colour.
906
907Added wxDragImage.
908
909Fixed printing on wxGTK.
910
911Added wxDateTime, wxTimeSpan, and wxDateSpan to wxPython.utils.
912
913Added wxCalendarCtrl.
914
915WARNING: A while back I asked what should be done about the Magic
916Method Names. (Methods that are automatically turned into event
917handlers by virtue of their name.) The consensus was that it is more
918confusing to have them than to try and expand them to have greater
919coverage. I am finally getting around to removing the code that
920generates the event binding. This means that if you are using any of
921the following method names without a EVT_* call that you need to
922modify your code to add the EVT_* to hook the event to the method.
923
924 OnChar
925 OnSize
926 OnEraseBackground
927 OnSysColourChanged
928 OnInitDialog
929 OnPaint
930 OnIdle
931 OnActivate
932 OnMenuHighlight
933 OnCloseWindow
934 OnScroll
935
936Added wxSpinCtrl.
937
938
939
940
941New in 2.1.15
942-------------
943
944Fixed wxTreeCtrl.HitTest to return both the tree item as well as the
945flags that clairify where the click was in relation to the item.
946
947Fixed thread state problem in wxTreeCtrl.GetBoundingBox and
948GetSelections.
949
950Fixed some problems in OGL. Also wxShape.SetClientData and
951.GetClientData can now deal with Python objects.
952
953Added wxListCtrl.SortItems and changed the demo to show how to use it.
954
955Plugged a memory leak.
956
957Wrapped the new wxGrid and friends. The old wxGrid class is no longer
958available. There are some incompatibilities, and unfortunately the
959new classes are not documented yet, (however the methods are more
960consistent with each other now so you may be able to guess pretty
961good...)
962
963Updated filebrowsebutton.py and calendar.py with changes from their
964authors. There is now a FileBrowseButtonWithHistory class (what a
965mouthful!) and wxCalendar has printing support.
966
967Added ActiveXWrapper to the library, and some good demos of it too.
968It works great for embedding a COM (a.k.a OCX, a.k.a ActiveX) control
969in a window and calling its methods. It actually creates a new class
970on the fly that derives from wxWindow, the COM CoClass and others
971needed to make it all work. The resulting class can be instantiated
972just like wxWindow, used in sizers, etc. It also responds to all COM
973method calls, properties, etc., and if the class or a mix-in has
974matching method names, then the COM events will be propogated back to
975them.
976
977Created a typemap that allows a string to be used for parameters
978expecting a wxColour type. The string is either a colour name as
979defined in the wxColourDatabase, or a colour spec of the form
980"#RRGGBB". See the wxStyledTextCtrl demo for an example.
981
982I almost forgot to mention the wxStyledTextCtrl! Yes, the
983wxStyledTextCtrl is finally in wxPython!! (And the crowd goes
984wild...) There's no documentaTion yet (the crowd boos and hisses...)
985but I've included a very readable source file in the
986wxPython/demo/data directory, a couple fairly good examples, and you
987can also refer to the Scintilla documentaion at
988http://www.scintilla.org/ScintillaDoc.html to help fill in the gaps
989until the docs are done. (The croud murmers contentedly as the tool
990provider smiles convincingly and removes his flame-proof suit.)
991
992
993
994
995What's new in 2.1.13
996--------------------
997Skipped a version number to match what has been released for wxGTK.
998
999Updated wxMVCTree and added a demo for it, also fixed layout on GTK
1000and some flicker problems.
1001
1002Added a wrapper class for the Visualization ToolKit (or VTK) in the
1003wxPython.lib.vtk module. (http://www.kitware.com/)
1004
1005Fixed wxTreeCtrl.SetItemImage and GetItemImage to recognise the new
1006"which" parameter.
1007
1008Added wxPython.lib.spashscreen from Mike Fletcher.
1009
1010Added wxPython.lib.filebrowsebutton also from Mike Fletcher.
1011
1012Renamed wxTreeCtrl.GetParent to GetItemParent to avoid a name clash
1013with wxWindow.GetParent.
1014
1015Added wxIntersectRect to compute the intersection of two wxRect's.
1016It is used like this:
1017
1018 intersect = wxIntersectRect(rect1, rect2)
1019
1020If r1 and r2 don't intersect then None is returned, otherwise the
1021rectangle representing the intersection is returned.
1022
1023Some bug fixes for Clipboard and Drag-n-Drop.
1024
1025Rotated text!!! WooHoo! (See wxDC.DrawRotatedText())
1026
1027Added a set of Generic Buttons to the library. These are simple
1028window classes that look and act like native buttons, but you can have
1029a bit more control over them. The bezel width can be set in addition
1030to colours, fonts, etc. There is a ToggleButton as well as Bitmap
1031versions too. They should also serve as a good example of how to
1032create your own classes derived from wxControl.
1033
1034The C++ wxToolBar classes have been redone, and so have the wxPython
1035wrappers. There have been slight modifications to some of the methods
1036but shouldn't impact anybody too much. I took the opportunity to add
1037support for setting user data on each toolbar tool. The new AddTool
1038methods look like this:
1039
1040 def AddTool(ID,
1041 bitmap,
1042 pushedBitmap = wxNullBitmap,
1043 toggle = FALSE,
1044 clientData = NULL,
1045 shortHelpString = "",
1046 longHelpString = "")
1047
1048 def AddSimpleTool(ID,
1049 bitmap,
1050 shortHelpString = "",
1051 longHelpString = "",
1052 toggle=FALSE)
1053
1054
1055There are also corresponding InsertTool and InsertSimpleTool methods
1056that additionally take an integer position as the first parameter.
1057
1058Added a wrapper for the new PCX and TIFF ImageHandlers.
1059
1060wxRect now simulates attributes named left, right, top and bottom.
1061
1062Removed all non wx stuff from the glcanvas module since DA's PyOpenGL
1063is better and compatible with the wxGLCanvas. You can get it at
1064http://starship.python.net:9673/crew/da/Code/PyOpenGL.
1065
1066Added some missing EVT_ functions.
1067
1068Added Dirk Holtwic's editor classes to the wxPython.lib.editor
1069package.
1070
1071Changed all the "LIST" parameter names to "choices" to match the docs.
1072
1073More fixes for the wxFloatBar, and it now works on wxGTK even better
1074than wxMSW! (The feat is accomplished by using the wxTB_DOCKABLE
1075style flag instead of trying to float it ourselves.)
1076
1077
1078
1079
1080What's new in 2.1.11
1081--------------------
1082Skipped a few version numbers so wxMSW, wxGTK and wxPython are all
1083syncronized.
1084
1085wxImage.SetData now makes a copy of the image data before giving it to
1086wxImage. I mistakenly thought that wxImage would copy the data
1087itself.
1088
1089Fixed wxMSW's notebook so the pages get their size set as they are
1090being added. This should remove the need for our
1091wxNotebook.ResizeChildren hack.
1092
1093wxPanels now support AutoLayout, and wxNotebooks and wxSplitterWindows
1094no longer tell their children to Layout() themselves. This will
1095probably only effect you if you have a wxWindow with AutoLayout inside
1096a notebook or splitter. If so, either change it to a wxPanel or add
1097an EVT_SIZE handler that calls Layout().
1098
1099Fixed deadlock problem that happened when using threads.
1100
1101Added new HTML printing classes.
1102
1103Added wxWindow.GetHandle
1104
1105Apparently wxMouseEvent.Position has been depreciated in wxWindows as
1106it is no longer available by default. You can use GetPositionTuple
1107(returning a tuple with x,y) instead, or GetPosition (returning a
1108wxPoint.)
1109
1110Added wxPostEvent function that allows events to be posted and then
1111processed later. This is a thread-safe way to interact with the GUI
1112thread from other threads.
1113
1114Added Clipboard and Drag-and-Drop classes.
1115
1116Added wxFontEnumerator.
1117
1118Many updates to wxMenu, wxMenuBar.
1119
1120wxPyEvent and wxPyCommandEvent derived classes now give you the actual
1121Python object in the event handler instead of a new shadow.
1122
1123Added a Calendar widget from Lorne White to the library.
1124
1125Made some fixes to the wxFloatbar. It still has some troubles on
1126wxGTK...
1127
1128Added an MVC tree control from Bryn Keller to the library.
1129
1130
1131
1132
1133What's new in 2.1.5
1134-------------------
1135This is a quick bug-fix release to take care of a few nasties that
1136crept in at the last minute before 2.1.4 was called done. No new
1137major features.
1138
1139
1140
1141What's new in 2.1.4
1142--------------------
1143
1144This release is NOT syncronized with a snapshot release of wxGTK or
1145wxMSW. For MSW this isn't much of a problem since you can get the
1146binaries from the web site. For other platforms you'll have to build
1147wxGTK from CVS. (See http://web.ukonline.co.uk/julian.smart/wxwin/cvs.htm)
1148To get the same set of sources from CVS that I used, checkout using
1149the wxPy-2-1-4 tag.
1150
1151Now back to what's new...
1152
1153Much more support for event-less callbacks and add-on modules.
1154
1155Created add-on module with wxOGL classes.
1156
1157Added wxWindow.GetChildren(). Be careful of this. It returns a *copy*
1158of the list of the window's children. While you are using the list if
1159anything changes in the real list (a child is deleted, etc.) then the
1160list you are holding will suddenly have window references to garbage
1161memory and your app will likely crash. But if you are careful it works
1162great!
1163
1164Added a bunch of new and missing methods to wxTreeCrtl. The
1165SortChildren method is now supported, but currently only for the
1166default sort order.
1167
1168Added typemaps for wxSize, wxPoint, wxRealPoint, and wxRect that allow
1169either the actual objects or Python sequence values to be used. For
1170example, the following are equivallent:
1171
1172 win = wxWindow(parent, size = wxSize(100, 100))
1173 win = wxWindow(parent, size = (100, 100))
1174
1175Super-charged the wxHtml module. You can now create your own tag
1176handlers and also have access to the parser and cell classes. There
1177is a tag handler in the library at wxPython.lib.wxpTag that
1178understands the WXP tag and is able to place wxPython windows on HTML
1179pages. See the demo for an example.
1180
1181A bunch of the methods of wxMenuBar were previously ifdef'd out for
1182wxGTK. Added them back in since the methods exist now.
1183
1184Wrapped the wxHtmlHelpController and related classes.
1185
1186Wrapped the C++ versions of wxSizer and friends. The Python-only
1187versions are still in the library, but depreciated. (You will get a
1188warning message if you try to use them, but the warning can be
1189disabled.) The usage of the C++ versions is slightly different, and
1190the functionality of wxBorderSizer is now part of wxBoxSizer. I have
1191added a few methods to wxSizer to try and make the transition as
1192smooth as possible, I combined all Add methods into a single method
1193that handles all cases, added an AddMany method, etc. One step I did
1194not take was to make the default value of flag in the Add method be
1195wxGROW. This would have made it more backward compatible, but less
1196portable to and from wxWin C++ code. Please see the docs and demo for
1197further details.
1198
1199Added wxPyEvent and wxPyCommandEvent classes, derived from wxEvent and
1200wxCommandEvent. Each of them has SetPyData and GetPyData methods that
1201accept or return a single Python object. You can use these classes
1202directly or derive from them to create your own types of event objects
1203that can pass through the wxWindows event system without loosing their
1204Python parts (as long as they are stored with SetPyData.) Stay tuned
1205for more info and examples in future releases.
1206
1207Added wxPython.lib.grids as an example of how to derive a new sizer
1208from the C++ sizers. In this module you will find wxGridSizer and
1209wxFlexGridSizer. wxGridSizer arrainges its items in a grid in which
1210all the widths and heights are the same. wxFlexgridSizer allows
1211different widths and heights, and you can also specify rows and/or
1212columns that are growable. See the demo for a couple examples for how
1213to use them.
1214
1215Added the wxValidator class, and created a class named wxPyValidator
1216that should be used for the base class of any Python validators. See
1217the demo for an example. Please note that you MUST implement a Clone
1218method in your validator classes because of the way some things work
1219in the underlying C++ library. I did not add wxTextValidator because
1220of some issues of how it transfers data to and from a wxString, which
1221in wxPython is automatically translated to and from Python strings, so
1222there would never be a concrete wxString that would hang around long
1223enough for the validator to do its job. On the other hand, it should
1224be real easy to duplicate the functionality of wxTextValidator in a
1225pure Python class derived from wxPyValidator.
1226
1227I've finally added a feature that has been on my list for close to two
1228years! Ever wondered what that zero is for when you create your app
1229object? Well now you can leave it out or explicitly set it to a true
1230value. This value now controls what is to be done with sys.stdout and
1231sys.stderr. A false value leaves them alone, and a true value sets
1232them to an instance of wxPyOnDemandOutputWindow. (On windows the
1233default is true, on unix platforms the default is false.) This class
1234creates a frame containing a wxTextCtrl as soon as anything is written
1235to sys.stdout or sys.stderr. If you close the window it will come
1236back again the next time something is written. (You can call
1237app.RestoreStdio to turn this off.) If you would rather that the stdio be
1238redirected to a file, you can provide a second parameter to your app
1239object's constructor that is a filename. If you want to use your own
1240class instead of wxPyOnDemandOutputWindow you can either implement
1241RedirectStdio() in you app class or change the value of
1242wxApp.outputWindowClass like this:
1243
1244 class MyApp(wxApp):
1245 outputWindowClass = MyClass
1246
1247 def OnInit(self):
1248 frame = MyFrame()
1249 self.SetTopWindow(frame)
1250 return true
1251
1252Please see the implementation of wxPyOnDemandOutputWindow and wxApp in
1253wx.py for more details. A few words of caution: if you are running
1254your app in a debugger, changing sys.stdout and sys.stderr is likely
1255to really screw things up.
1256
1257Added wxCaret. Unfortunately it's author has still not documented it
1258in the wxWindows docs...
1259
1260Some new 3rd party contributions in wxPython.lib. PyShell, in
1261shell.py is an interesting implementaion of an interactive Python
1262shell in wxWindows. floatbar.py has a class derived from wxToolBar
1263that can sense mouse drags and then reparent itself into another
1264frame. Moving the new frame close to where it came from puts the tool
1265bar back into the original parent. (Unfortunately there is currently
1266a bug in wxGTK's wxFrame.SetToolBar so the FloatBar has some
1267problems...)

1271
1272What's new in 2.1b3
1273--------------------
1274
1275This release is syncronized with release 2.1 snapshot 9 of wxWindows.
1276
1277Switched to using SWIG from CVS (see http://swig.cs.uchicago.edu/cvs.html)
1278for some of the new features and such. Also they have encorporated my
1279patches so there is really no reason to stick with the current (very
1280old) release... This version of SWIG gives the following new
1281features:
1282
1283 1. Keyword arguments. You no longer have to specify all the
1284 parameters with defaults to a method just to specify a
1285 non-default value on the end. You can now do this instead:
1286
1287 win = wxWindow(parent, -1, style = mystyle)
1288
1289 2. There is now an an equivalence between Python's None and C++'s
1290 NULL. This means that any methods that might return NULL will
1291 now return None and you can use none where wxWindows might be
1292 expecting NULL. This makes things much more snake-ish.
1293
1294
1295There is a new build system based on a new Python program instead of
1296raw makefiles. Now wxPython builds are virtually the same on MSW or
1297Unix systems. See the end of this file for new build instructions and
1298see distrib/build.py for more details.
1299
1300wxDC.Bilt now includes the useMask parameter, and has been split into
1301two different versions. wxDC.BlitXY is like what was there before and
1302takes raw coordinants and sizes, and the new wxDC.Blit is for the new
1303interface using wxPoints and a wxSize.
1304
1305
1306
1307
1308
1309What's new in 2.1b2
1310--------------------
1311
1312Added the missing wxWindow.GetUpdateRegion() method.
1313
1314Made a new change in SWIG (update your patches everybody) that
1315provides a fix for global shadow objects that get an exception in
1316their __del__ when their extension module has already been deleted.
1317It was only a 1 line change in .../SWIG/Modules/pycpp.cxx at about
1318line 496 if you want to do it by hand.
1319
1320It is now possible to run through MainLoop more than once in any one
1321process. The cleanup that used to happen as MainLoop completed (and
1322prevented it from running again) has been delayed until the wxc module
1323is being unloaded by Python.
1324
1325I fixed a bunch of stuff in the C++ version of wxGrid so it wouldn't
1326make wxPython look bad.
1327
1328wxWindow.PopupMenu() now takes a wxPoint instead of x,y. Added
1329wxWindow.PopupMenuXY to be consistent with some other methods.
1330
1331Added wxGrid.SetEditInPlace and wxGrid.GetEditInPlace.
1332
1333You can now provide your own app.MainLoop method. See
1334wxPython/demo/demoMainLoop.py for an example and some explaination.
1335
1336Got the in-place-edit for the wxTreeCtrl fixed and added some demo
1337code to show how to use it.
1338
1339Put the wxIcon constructor back in for GTK as it now has one that
1340matches MSW's.
1341
1342Added wxGrid.GetCells
1343
1344Added wxSystemSettings static methods as functions with names like
1345wxSystemSettings_GetSystemColour.
1346
1347Removed wxPyMenu since using menu callbacks have been depreciated in
1348wxWindows. Use wxMenu and events instead.
1349
1350Added alternate wxBitmap constructor (for MSW only) as
1351 wxBitmapFromData(data, type, width, height, depth = 1)
1352
1353Added a helper function named wxPyTypeCast that can convert shadow
1354objects of one type into shadow objects of another type. (Like doing
1355a down-cast.) See the implementation in wx.py for some docs.
1356
1357Fixed wxImage GetData and SetData to properly use String objects for
1358data transfer.
1359
1360Added access methods to wxGridEvent.
1361
1362New Makefile/Setup files supporting multiple dynamic extension modules
1363for unix systems.
1364
1365Fixes for the wxGLCanvas demo to work around a strange bug in gtk.
1366
1367SWIG support routines now compiled separately instead of being bundled
1368in wx.cpp.
1369
1370
1371
1372
1373
1374What's new in 2.1b1
1375--------------------
1376Fixed wxComboBox.SetSelection so that it actually sets the selected
1377item. (Actually just removed it from wxPython and let it default to
1378wxChoice.SetSelection which was already doing the right thing.)
1379
1380Added the Printing Framework.
1381
1382Switched back to using the wxWindows DLL for the pre-built Win32
1383version. The problem was needing to reinitialize static class info
1384data after loading each extension module.
1385
1386Lots of little tweaks and additions to reflect changes to various
1387wxWindows classes.
1388
1389Fixed a bug with attaching objects to tree items. Actually was a
1390symptom of a larger problem with not obtaining the interpreter lock
1391when doing any Py_DECREFs.
1392
1393wxSizer and friends. Sizers are layout tools that manage a colection
1394of windows and sizers. Different types of sizers apply different
1395types of layout algorithms. You saw it here first! These classes are
1396not even in the wxWindows C++ library yet!
1397
1398
1399
1400What's new in 2.0b9
1401-------------------
1402Bug fix for ListCtrl in test4.py (Was a missing file... DSM!)
1403
1404Bug fix for occassional GPF on Win32 systems upon termination of a
1405wxPython application.
1406
1407Added wxListBox.GetSelections returning selections as a Tuple.
1408
1409Added a wxTreeItemData that is able to hold any Python object and be
1410associated with items in a wxTreeCtrl. Added test pytree.py to show
1411this feature off.
1412
1413Added wxSafeYield function.
1414
1415OpenGL Canvas can be optionally compiled in to wxPython.
1416
1417Awesome new Demo Framework for showing off wxPython and for learning
1418how it all works.
1419
1420The pre-built Win32 version is no longer distributing the wxWindows
1421DLL. It is statically linked with the wxWindows library instead.
1422
1423Added a couple missing items from the docs.
1424
1425Added wxImage, wxImageHandler, wxPNGHandler, wxJPEGHandler,
1426wxGIFHandler and wxBMPHandler.
1427
1428Added new methods to wxTextCtrl.
1429
1430Fixed some problems with how SWIG was wrapping some wxTreeCtrl
1431methods.
1432
1433
1434
1435What's new in 2.0b8
1436-------------------
1437Support for using Python threads in wxPython apps.
1438
1439Several missing methods from various classes.
1440
1441Various bug fixes.
1442
1443
1444
1445What's new in 2.0b7
1446-------------------
1447Added DLG_PNT and DLG_SZE convienience methods to wxWindow class.
1448
1449Added missing constructor and other methods for wxMenuItem.
1450
1451
1452
1453What's new in 2.0b6
1454-------------------
1455Just a quickie update to fix the self-installer to be compatible with
1456Python 1.5.2b2's Registry settings.
1457
1458
1459What's new in 2.0b5
1460-------------------
1461Well obviously the numbering scheme has changed. I did this to
1462reflect the fact that this truly is the second major revision of
1463wxPython, (well the third actually if you count the one I did for
1464wxWindows 1.68 and then threw away...) and also that it is associated
1465with the 2.0 version of wxWindows.
1466
1467I have finally started documenting wxPython. There are several pages
1468in the wxWindows documentation tree specifically about wxPython, and I
1469have added notes within the class references about where and how wxPython
1470diverges from wxWindows.
1471
1472Added wxWindow_FromHWND(hWnd) for wxMSW to construct a wxWindow from a
1473window handle. If you can get the window handle into the python code,
1474it should just work... More news on this later.
1475
1476Added wxImageList, wxToolTip.
1477
1478Re-enabled wxConfig.DeleteAll() since it is reportedly fixed for the
1479wxRegConfig class.
1480
1481As usual, some bug fixes, tweaks, etc.
1482
1483
1484
1485What's new in 0.5.3
1486-------------------
1487Added wxSashWindow, wxSashEvent, wxLayoutAlgorithm, etc.
1488
1489Various cleanup, tweaks, minor additions, etc. to maintain
1490compatibility with the current wxWindows.
1491
1492
1493
1494What's new in 0.5.0
1495-------------------
1496Changed the import semantics from "from wxPython import *" to "from
1497wxPython.wx import *" This is for people who are worried about
1498namespace pollution, they can use "from wxPython import wx" and then
1499prefix all the wxPython identifiers with "wx."
1500
1501Added wxTaskbarIcon for wxMSW.
1502
1503Made the events work for wxGrid.
1504
1505Added wxConfig.
1506
1507Added wxMiniFrame for wxGTK.
1508
1509Changed many of the args and return values that were pointers to gdi
1510objects to references to reflect changes in the wxWindows API.
1511
1512Other assorted fixes and additions.
1513
1514
1515
1516
1517What's new in 0.4.2
1518-------------------
1519
1520wxPython on wxGTK works!!! Both dynamic and static on Linux and
1521static on Solaris have been tested. Many thanks go to Harm
1522<H.v.d.Heijden@phys.tue.nl> for his astute detective work on tracking
1523down a nasty DECREF bug. Okay so I have to confess that it was just a
1524DSM (Dumb Stupid Mistake) on my part but it was nasty none the less
1525because the behavior was so different on different platforms.
1526
1527The dynamicly loaded module on Solaris is still segfaulting, so it
1528must have been a different issue all along...
1529
1530
1531
1532What's New in 0.4
1533-----------------
1534
15351. Worked on wxGTK compatibility. It is partially working. On a
1536Solaris/Sparc box wxPython is working but only when it is statically
1537linked with the Python interpreter. When built as a dyamically loaded
1538extension module, things start acting weirdly and it soon seg-faults.
1539And on Linux both the statically linked and the dynamically linked
1540version segfault shortly after starting up.
1541
15422. Added Toolbar, StatusBar and SplitterWindow classes.
1543
15443. Varioius bug fixes, enhancements, etc.
1545
1546----------------------------------------------------------------------
