  40 library is used to generate unique identifiers for objects that may be
  41 accessible beyond the local system.  This library
  42 generates UUIDs compatible with those created by the Open Software
  43 Foundation (OSF) Distributed Computing Environment (DCE) utility
  44 .BR uuidgen .

  46 The UUIDs generated by this library can be reasonably expected to be
  47 unique within a system, and unique across all systems.  They could
  48 be used, for instance, to generate unique HTTP cookies across multiple
  49 web servers without communication between the servers, and without fear
  50 of a name clash.
